This is an incredible masterclass and I really appreciate that you showed all of the "mistakes" like shooting in JPEG instead of NEF for a few shots (been there, done that) and also all of the shots where the light changed and and you had to readjust instead of only showing the masterpieces. It also helped that you explained how to get started even in rural Poland for those of us who don't live in NYC or London. But the best tip I learned from this was to start carrying my phone everywhere (I always leave it at home) and start cataloguing location possibilities. I have done everything I can think of with a roll of black paper in a tiny apartment and its time to grow. I look forward to watching part two. BTW, your model was amazing. She didn't look like a model doing the typical model poses that every other model does and I hope she never does!!

You are my color angel Joanna. Your secrets of color grading video was eye opening for me, it changed how I see color. Being able to see your process from shoot to edit is such a privilege. I've learned so much from you. Amongst all the incredible photographers that I follow to learn from, I admire you the most. I wish you immense success.

While not polished like tutorials you’d buy from a production company, this contains all the information you’d need to know for the creative process to a photography production. Very nice!!

Update: I'm now 36mins in and this continues to be incredible. It is so educational to see your face, to see how you speak to models and your team, how you are clear about your vision and determined in your choices. Getting to go thru shots one by one and see mistakes as well as all those shots that dont make the cut is so encouraging to me for all those I have from my own experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for being so transparent. These details are deeply encouraging. Showing your process is so much more impactful than if u were simply to tell or summarize it. Thank you so much. :)

I've done cosplay photography for a hobby for 7 years or so, and it's fascinating to see how you're doing so many things in a similar way - but much more organized. Having developed an interest in fashion photography and doing research I've been wondering how a shoot looks behind the scenes, and watching this masterclass makes me realize that the biggest difference betweem what I've done and what you do is that you absolutely know what you're doing in directing the shoot.

I'm also from a small town in Poland and I went through similar trials and tribulations in the United States. After several years of trying fashion photography I gave up on it because the logistics of putting a shoot together turned out to be too much in my area and within other constraints at hand. To simplify things I opted for just me behind the camera and the models wearing no makeup and no clothes for the most part. I also decided to do mostly black and white photography since the subjects were monochromatic anyway. Twigs and glass I also choose for my subjects aren't very colorful either. I'm retiring in Poland and planning to work on some projects involving color and costumes so that's I why I found this video. It's very informative and and your work, Joanna, is fantastic. Dziękuję i pozdrawiam.

if using a single light, the best lighting position for beauty is eye level, that is a fact. controls the eyebrow, nose, and chin shadows the best. i also like higher up, but you get shadows in the areas i just named. can use a bead board to bounce back in if necessary.
