I would like to visit Barcelona someday. The city looks very cosmopolitan and with and endless list of interesting things you can do. Thanks for sharing your point of view as a digital nomad living in Barcelona. 👍

I find the life of a digital nomad in Barcelona interesting, beyond its positive and negative things, it shows that it's a city that adapts to this lifestyle where it's very busy and that makes the city vibrant in every context, everything you can do as a digital nomad and the pace of life you want to lead seems very amazing to me, so if I wanted to be a digital nomad I would definitely choose Barcelona to live. 👍

I think all places have good and bad things and it’s a very personal decision to make that depends a lot on personal preferences. But I agree. For me Barcelona is a very vibrant city that offers an amazing lifestyle and in general a great city to live in 😍

I have lived 6 years in Barcelona, Spain and it’s heading in the wrong direction. Portugal and Andorra are way better options for Digital Nomads as a base. When considering.. 1. Safety, the crime rate increase with immigration, theft is really common. Andorra have 0.4% Crime rate, Portugal a lot less than Spain. 2. Taxes, Spain is the worst option (24% tax for 5 years, but you need to pay social security no matter your earnings), also dealing with the tax office is a nightmare. It’s a fundamental problem in Spain, the government doesnt trust the people and the people doesnt trust the government. Which is the opposite in both Portugal & Andorra. Andorra offer 0% tax up to 24000€ and an average of 2% up to 40 000€. Portugal have 20% for 10 years and 0% tax on Crypto. 3. Housing, in Spain you share apartments with others, why? too expensive to have your own apartment. Your salary doesnt cover your housing. Both Portugal and Andorra offer better housing. This also goes for buying property. The Spanish government is also the worst among the three, a socialist government that is sadly walking the same path as the failed latin american countries. Talking about making it fair for everyone, but in reality everyone is getter a worse situation. I could go on and on. Conclusion, if you are a young expat and want to explore Spain. Go ahead, I had the same romantic Idea as you when I first moved there, BUT if you want something for a longer term, to buy a property or save/keep more of your money that you earn in a digital lifestyle. Choose another base than Spain. It’s a lot better options in Europe still, Andorra, Portugal & Malta as examples. I lived in all countries mentioned, and Spain might be nice to visit, but not more than this. Sadly.

Hey, thanks a lot for sharing your experience and thoughts about this. I personally think it always depends a lot on what you are looking for. Tax wise it might be best to move to Andorra as a digital nomad, but I personally wouldn’t want to live in Andorra for example. I’d always prefer Spain. It’s definitely true that Spain is not the most tax friendly country. But as far as I know, by now, neither is Portugal, at least not if you are looking for something longterm. I live in Barcelona since 3 years now and I love it. But again, I do get your point about the longterm part. I’m not sure how long I’ll stay in Spain, but for now I’m enjoying my time there :) May I ask in which country you live now and what made you choose that one?

A digital nomad from germany? What about the angry or pissed off locals of Barcelona? Anyone from Barcelona or around Spain as well as other foreign countries who are sick and tired or fed up with soo much foreign tourism and gentrification that left locals who are left behind and kicked out.

Barcelona comes at a price, there's much better options, but I dont blame you, Spain is the choice.

I guess it always depends on preferences. I know that tax wise there are better countries. But are these countries the ones where you want to live in? There are a lot of things that need to be taken into account and everyone has to look what works best and what are the non-negotiables about the country of residence ☺️

This is my first first comment ever 🎉 OK, so Barcelona looks beautiful and the theme of being a digital nomad was very appealing as I am looking for alternatives to my country, which I fear is heading down a dark path. The problem is I've been hearing that Spain is already ruined. First, by becoming socialist. Second, by the way they have become hostile to tourists. If the people are angry why don't they first blame their own leaders? Spaniards have depended on the money that tourism brings forever and businesses are built to cater to travelers. Do locals think they are helping by destroying the tourism industry in Spain? And because you rated Spain for safety at only 4, and I believe you may have been too kind, I have taken Spain off my bucket list and it is definitely not a place I would like to retire in. I have a real problem giving my money to people that hate me. I'm weird like that. That's the problem thinking you can be an expat anywhere you like. You are automatically a foreigner wherever you go and makes you want to just take your chances staying put even though I see what is coming to the US.

Thank you for staying in the US , You do realize their population almost triples during tourist season, Almost as bad as being overrun by immigration thanks to Dimwit Biden and Kackles Harris? Barcelona is absolutely the worst place to live in all of Spain and I have been all over that country.

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts! I totally understand what you mean. There are safer cities than Barcelona in Europe although I personally can only say that I’ve never been in any awkward situation after 3 years living there and I definitely feel safe. It’s just that you need to know a few things about some districts where you really need to watch your things. And about the movement against tourism: I partially understand it. Of course Spain depends on tourists. But some places suffer from mass tourism and a lot of tourists also misbehave… It’s only natural that such a movement is growing. Again, I’ve never been in any awkward situation, neither have I ever not felt welcomed. But I do understand that this is a downside for some people and a reason why they wouldn’t want to move to Barcelona :)
