I love the feeling that you bring in your paintings. The abstraction is wonderful! Now I try and combine the theory of Value and color on one side and feeling on the other side together but often it confuses my paintings, and they end up looking muddy. chapeau to you Marco! keep making these video's. Its very inspiring!

Do you use reference when you paint?
@marcobucci5 жыл бұрын
Only if I don't know what something looks like. In this case I didn't need any. I used to use reference all the time, but as you gain experience (highly recommend lots of painting directly from life, as I show/discuss in my other videos), you gain a visual library in your head that allows you to work more freely.
@marcobucci5 жыл бұрын
Revising my reply: I did use a piece of reference on this one, specifically for the way snow piles up on Birch trees.

Which medium is viable to paint from life?
@marcobucci7 жыл бұрын
Juan Trm any medium! I prefer watercolour because I find it the most difficult, but also the most rewarding. Very portable, too. Adding a bit of white gouache to your watercolour is a good way to get some opacity when you need it, and everything cleans up with water. That's for land/streetscapes. If I'm painting from the live model in a controlled environment, I'll probably opt for oil or acrylic, which can be worked a bit more.
@juanpablotrimarco68617 жыл бұрын
Thanks for answering! Any brand or type of watercolour in particular? I don't really know any heh. Same goes for the paper :(
@marcobucci7 жыл бұрын
Any brand of watercolour will do, I just recommend you stick to professional grade whenever possible (as opposed to student grade). As for paper, I recommend a minimum of 140lb (anything less will buckle too easily with washes), and I prefer cold press (rough) paper over hot press. You should be able to find sketchbooks of that in any art store. Arches is probably the most common brand of paper. OR, far more easily - grab yourself a Moleskine watercolor book. That's a great book for outdoor sketches.

I want to know if you think that the first step to learn paint is actually learn how to draw...
@marcobucci7 жыл бұрын
The first thing is: painting IS drawing. Your painting will always rise (or sink) to the level of your drawing. So learning the fundamentals of drawing is probably the most efficient way to go about it, yes. Is it impossible to learn to draw by only painting? Yes ... but I don't recommend that.
