You have inspired me with your next video. I am converting my lathe to a single powered y axis and a DRO on the x to make it turn tapers with an arduino. still to have manual control as well. A new ball screw on the Y with a stepper motor. will have to make a new indicator to match the ball screw pitch. Thank you for the inspiration.

Maybe that's why I like machining stuff, it requires less fine motor coordination and still get highly precise results.

It's probably too late but if you are interested I can provide Arduino software for two axes quill summing, no other parts needed, just like the box you ordered. The Arduino typically fits easily inside the back of chinese DRO displays.
@kerkkonenahaima73223 жыл бұрын
Thanks, but too late for me, the Machine DRO summing device works fine. I will still do a switch that bypasses the summing feature when the quill is tilted or the summing is not wanted for what ever reason. I have the 4th axis channel to spare for that. Is there anything online, that you can share a link for the Arduino code, if someone else is interested? I tried to google such code when this was topical for me. I could´n find any, so ended up buying a ready unit, for it wasn't that pricey.

@@kerkkonenahaima7322 You can find the code and more information here: forum.zerspanungsbude.net/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=47863 Maybe it is useful to you some other time, once you have the position/movement information inside the Arduino you can do all sorts of unethical things to it before sending it on to the Display. Or maybe, as you say, for others to follow up on. I just wish we could have our way with the DRO display source code itself.

Where did you pick up the magnetic read head and strip from? Link?
Is it possible to use any type of 5000 PPR encoder? Could you please explain why the Quadrature factor is used? I appreciate your help.
@kerkkonenahaima7322 Жыл бұрын
Most likely you can and you can use any other PPR amount as well, if you can configure the readout accordingly. I used that encoder with this gear ratio to match degrees to millimeters on the display, without changes in the config. The PPR amount tells how many notches or holes the pulse wheel has. These pulses are read by 2 optical) sensor with 1/2 pulse phase shift on each orher. Both sensor gives rising and falling edge information to the readout. The readout can figure out the direction of the movement from the signal change order and as a nice side effect you get four times the resolution. Similary a 5micron linear scale does have only 20 micron width on the etchings.

Hello What is the type of rotary encoder of your choice and how do you connect it? P.Tamas (Hungary)
@kerkkonenahaima73222 жыл бұрын
My encoder is Pepperl+Fuchs RVI58N-044ABR66N-05000. I think it is salvaged from a servomotor. Connecting the encoder to the readout is pretty straight forward. Sensor needs 5V and GND and the output signals A and B are hooked to corresponding pins In the dro. Signals and levels are same with the linear scales.

Sorry, I can't recommend any reasonably priced hi-resolution encoder. My 5000ppr encoder is a bit over kill, but with small step-up gear ratio it was thr easiest way to use the linear pattern function as a dividing head. 1° turn shows as 1mm of 5 micron linear scale movement. Maybe some other make display could have dividing function for a rotary encoder of any resolution. Ditron supports rorary encoders, but I think there is some bug and pattern functions doesn't work on rotary axis.
