I love this series! Great insights into the work being rehearsed. For any conductor who thinks they are above being a mere teacher, watch Lieutenant Colonel Fettig. Here is the greatest band on Earth, and their fantastic conductor is still teaching them -- not just waving the stick.

Is this the final segment covering Grainger’s Posy? Three parts in total? Have really enjoyed this! Brings back playing it myself in “Band” and then being in the audience for my son’s concerts years later.

I watched Mr. Fennel rehearsing Posy on You tube a number of times. It was hilarious when he got to Lord Melbourne and sang it for the band to demonstrate how Grainger would probably want it played. I really enjoy your rehearsals Colonel Fettig and I feel you may also have followed Mr. Fennell . The musicians are so talented, I was honored to meet some of the members over the years when they playedwith the North Cascades Concert Band. Thank you so much, Frederick Spector

Great music making from The President's Own Marine Band. So many excellent teaching points as well. Completed by a premier league conductor willing to "let the band play". Thank you for all three rehearsals.

Great stuff ladies and gentlemen, and really appreciate your interpretation Jason. Also, will now be sure to use the term “caffeinated” in the next rehearsal👍

Col Fettig was almost apologizing at the need for the players to have a bit of tense muscles at the end of Lost Lady Found. But it is really a brilliant suggestion. Looking at the story, if the Lost Lady had NOT been found, then her old guardian was going to hanged! I guess it was a clan conflict, but really! So the celebration at the end ringing the church bells and any other kind of available 'bell' by the percussion is not just for finding the Lost Lady but (incidentally?) saving the life of the guardian. Inspiring interpretation, thanks.

Each player here has probably played this since they were what? 15 years old? And yet, always something new. Thanks for allowing us all a chance to join this amazing rehearsal!

What great Clarinet reed sounds and I really like the Piccolo balance. Some times the Piccolo is just to strong and piercing with other groups , but not here. Thats one signature of the band well behaved reeds and flutes. Double reeds and saxophones blend so well with others, too. This truly a the best of the best when playing classical symphonic and marching band music.

Been waiting for these. Haven't watched yet... but know I'm in for something great. Thank you for the episodes! They're informative to me as a band director and just a pleasure to listen to.

Loved this series. Great work! I think it shows a bit that in my view Lost Lady found is the hardest part of this piece. It heightens all rhythmic deviations because there is a lot going on while the pulse should be steady. They could have worked even more on that part but I guess you can only do so much in a series like that. Tubas could be a bit more on the edge of their seats, musically speaking.

Interesting that he doesn’t want to make those fermatas like a 4/4 bar half notes but he then conducts it exactly like that… just interesting

Tbh. If the musicians are being paid 65k, which they are, you should steer with saying rehearsals are expected to be perfect

Well over 65k. Starting out, it’s basically 65-67k AFTER all your taxes have been taken out. You only go up from there. There are perks to being really good at what you do.

They’re great, but if you got an orchestral guru on the podium, there would be a lot more music making happening.

I’m so proud of this group and happy with my tax dollars going in this direction! I also enjoy the WDR Big Band on YT and I’m SO thankful that German taxpayers support them as well!
