4:40:36 One way to think about the problem is that there is a unique slope at every point on the parabola. All we have to do is to find the value of x that would match the parabola’s slope to the slope of the linear equation. We can tell that the linear equation’s slope is 3 (because slope-intercept form: y = mx + b, m = 3), but we are uncertain of the location where the parabola’s slope is also 3. This is where some simple calculus comes into play: The derivative. The derivative just gives you the slope of any function at any value. Take the derivative of the parabola (using what’s called the “power rule”) and you will get that at any point on the parabola, the slope would be 4x - 21. Now we have the slope of the line (3) and the slope of the parabola (4x - 21). Set them equal to each other and solve for x. 3 = 4x - 21 24 = 4x 6 = x

MEGA TIP FOR READING AND WRITING SECTION: when taking questions with notes, DON'T READ THE NOTES. just the question and you will find the answer

in minute 37:31 there was this example : the ingredients for this recipe are : flour , sugar....... my confusion is in the 'are' in the sentence ,since we can not put are before a colon, and writing the sentence without colon is grammatically correct .

It gladdens me to inform you that when doing the timed math section, I only missed one question which was #26 (I didn’t know what to do, but now I do.) math has never been my strongest point, however that gave me a lot of confidence. I take the PSAT tomorrow as of writing this message. Wish me luck!

Hey Hayden! In Q.15 at 2:57:04, the question states "where x > 7". But we didn't even use it or worry about it. In your future videos, can you please explain how we can recognize such redundant info (if it is redundant info here) and why we can ignore it ...that is if you feel it is needed? That would be helpful, as I see such things in some questions where there is extra info provided to possibly confuse the candidate. ...again, I appreciate all your efforts in bringing these videos and sharing your expert knowledge!!

i think it just means that if X potentially equal to 7 then the whole equation could be 0 and it wouldn't make any sense.

In Q.19, to determine b, I would just look at the equation h(x) = 4x + 28 to be in the form y = mx + c. Then, c represents the value of y-co-ordinate, or the y-intercept, which would be (0,28), so b = 28. That approach would reduce one more step (however small) instead of calculating y by replacing x with 0, isn't it ?

You discuss the use of colons (item d at 37: 21 in your video) to introduce items in a list. I have learned that the main rule for a colon is that they follow independent clauses. That is what you show in examples 2 and 3 in your video. Whatever follows after the colon can be a full sentence, a series of items, a phrase or a single word. But what goes before the colon must be an independent clause. So to be correct, you could re-write example 1 as "These are the ingredients for the recipe: flour, sugar, eggs and milk."
