That Gets/Gilberto was a nice find. And so was that double John Martyn CD. Be sure to watch the Commitments again Graeme. Since I've learned a bit more about Soul and Motown etc. it makes much more sense to me than it did when I was 20. Cheers

Hi John, I really do have to watch the film again sometime. I really enjoyed it way back when. I probably loved the book even more. Must have have read it three or four times! Nice short read. Cheers!

Hey! I love that Grand Drive album. I remember buying that in Glasgow while heading home after a trip to the West Coast with my Dad, and it was the soundtrack to our journey through the borders. The perfect music for driving. I've got their five albums, all of them very good, but I've not got on board Danny Wilson's newer project, Danny and the Champions of the World. Were S.M.A.S.H. part of the New Wave of the New Wave thing? I remember them being championed by the music press, but beyond a couple of tracks on free tapes I never really listened to them.

Hi Hedley, yeah S.M.A.S.H. were part of the new wave of new wave. I don't think many people really listened to them to be honest. The grand drive album is absolutely wonderful and I definitely have to get hold of some more of their stuff. Cheers!

Hi Graeme. Always love to see what CD's other people are finding in charity shops ... I would have bought the Pretenders' 'Loose Screw' for 50p ... I had high hopes for S.M.A.S.H back in the day, based on the hype in NME. I bought something on vinyl by them, and tried to convince myself that they were the next Clash. I would pick this up on CD if I saw it. As you say, you finish up buying stuff to make up the numbers. So many charity shops are offering deals such as 4 or 5 CD's for a £1.

Hi Carl, so many ridiculously cheap deals on cd at the moment. CDs are worth peanuts at the moment. I remember the hype around the new wave of new wave back when the inkies were looking for the next big thing pre-Britpop. I listened to These Animal Men the other day and it was a much better album than the S.M.A.S.H. album. Cheers

Wasn't the thing with S*M*A*S*H that they were imitating the production of things like the clash debut? (I maybe entirely wrong there 😂). Oh Graeme don't ever stop saying byeeeeee at the end we'd all so miss it. I have no classic theme toon either maybe that's where I went wrong.........

Imitating the sound can be a thing but this was a total botch job of the production. Definitely one of the worst I have heard. And don't worry I am never going to stop that particular sign off!
