i think the only reson it is slow is because the preview is for the video to see what you have recorded i watched a video on someone from nikon said its a preview of what you record i might be wrong

good full review, i'm pretty close to buying this camera, i'd be using mostly for travel photography, time-lapse, action sports pics and videos .. it seems great quality/price and has good features. is there another camera i should be looking at? i see quite a few bad comments about this, mainly about the 4k tho..

gadge83 you cant use 4k for vlogging, 4k is for landscape timelapse, but you can use 1080 60 that works pretty well. The main downside is not the 4k its the battery, battery size is too small.

I want to pass on something i learnt using it with nikon j5. I initially had some bother connecting my pixel pro 6 to the camera. First of all select wifi ssd on camera then look for it in your phone wifi set up... A few weeks ago Google gave us VPN I was struggling to connect to camera when I suddenly thought " turn VPN off ' which I did and bingo!! Phone and camera connected! Another thing. I found that I couldn't download the Nikon app from the Google play store! I had to go to the Nikon website for the app. ( You can also get the Nikon1 j5 manual as well).

20 Mpix on teeny CX sensor... what about difraction? F3.0 is real limit, any shots with F3.0+ would be above difraction limit. It`s mean that 100% shots on kit`s lens can be thrown to recycle bin BEFORE session. Where is LOGIC ?

Actually, I think I'd prefer a compact camera for that - something like the Lumix LX100, but that's currently roughly $200 more than the J5. So - yes, in terms of dollar to image quality and functionality - the J5 is an excellent choice.

+Brian “Bruno” Lee Thanks, Brian! The J5 is part of the Nikon 1 series, which makes it compatible with all lenses in that series. Any Nikkor Dx (crop) or Fx (full frame) lens would require an adapter in order to be mounted on this camera, such as the FT1 (amzn.to/1N2rtfU). There's also the much cheaper fotodiox adapter, but it doesn't provide autofocus (amzn.to/1QmKoSU).

Does your apple Smart phone use MicroSD cards? MicroSD can be adapted to fit in a Pc usb..Microsd card come in all shapes and sizes and speeds ,if smart phones and Tablets can use them why not Cameras.

please do a candle light test with lights off. how is the focusing in the dark and image quality? whenever I take my point and shoot small sensor camera at night or darker indoor photography it's super slow and blurry.

That's a great testing idea! Unfortunately, I don't have the J5 with me anymore for further testing. If I find one again, I'll be sure to check how it performs in this regard.

Use manual focus and use iso maximum 6400 if its become too noisy reduce to 3200. To reduce blur use ss at 1/30 below that (like 1/15 will get more blurry but brighter) or above 1/30 like 1/60 for less blur but darker pictures

Those two cameras are hugely different - the J5 is petite, with a x2.7 crop sensor, while the XA2 is much larger and with a x1.5 crop sensor. It's a matter of image quality vs. size and weight. If you're going for quality - you'll also get proper lenses for the XA2 which will make it even larger and heavier. If you're going for a compact yet powerful camera, the J5 is a good choice.

Its May Day it is over heats after over 20 minutes of recording 1080p 60, but you should more concern about the small battery size drain pretty quick

Vanessa Boeta Hi! vanessa. You can transfer the photos by just downloading the NIKON app on app store. Connect it with wifi and it will automatically transfer to Camera Roll.

J Kellan i can't choose between this one and Nikon D3300 DSLR. Low-light video capture. J5 is a bit cheaper.

D3300 for a better photos its a full fledged DSLR with alot of lens without having to use adapter and sensor is bigger too (APS C on 3300 and smaller CX format for 1J5), but its bigger and heavier than j5

Typical Nikon. The camera looks great. They are crazy to put a tiny micro sd cardslot inside The reason for me not to buy this camera. The other reason not to buy is Nikon has a poor service on consumer camera's and you need it! They all have a defect in no time. And this goes also for other brands and cheap plastic consumer camera's made in China. I give the most compact camera's two years before they die. Cheap Chinese junk those days!
