@@bkexpresz I don't disagree with you at all. I remember using STEMS on VDJ for the first time and how mind-blown I was. Now that I use standalone only, having decent STEMS is just as exciting as when it came out on VDJ. I think of it as a disconnect between user platform experiences. Those who chose to ditch the laptop did it for a certain reason. I did it because after watching footage of my performances, I realized how much i just stared at the laptop for really no reason. I'm also moving to Nevada and standalone gear is a little more resilient to heat than laptops tend to be. Switched to standalone and it renewed my love for DJing in the process. It's more about the performance perspective I think. It's a freeing experience to DJ without a laptop and it's something most DJ's won't understand until they experience it. LOL

I have recently purchased the prime 4 plus and did the Serato import/sync to get my library, playlists, crates etc...into engine DJ. I then did the track and stems pre-analysis on the entire library which did take a week or two to complete ( to be fair my library is large). Be aware of the extra space required for stems as additional files will be created for each instrument on the track. I then exported all my tracks with Engine DJ to a SATA HD drive an installed it the drive bay. I am happy to say stems works really well and I did not have any problems with performance during playback on the prime4 plus or indexing issues with retrieving tracks form such a large library on the stand-alone unit. I am overall really impressed with what Denon has done here, I now have my entire "stems ready" library available to me on the prime 4 without the need for a laptop. The only question I cant find the answer to yet, is what happens when you change a track or several tracks folder location on the drive? does it break the stem indexing or do the stem identifiers follow the track to whatever folder you place it on the drive? Meaning, you only have to create stems once for your library and are free to move your folders and tracks around on the drive exFAT file system.

Active Stems would be an awesome addition but in the meantime, I have been using Neural Mix Pro to create my them. From all the info provided by DigitalDjTips, I bought a Prime 4+ last month and absolutely love it. Stems was never really a deal breaker for me but now it's available I'll definitely be giving it a go. Something extra fun to mess around with. I like that they're making use of your computer to analyse them first - definitely a better route to get better quality. Yeah it's a shame you can't analyse streaming tracks but I can live with that if they sound better when in use 👍🏻
@iTubeYou2 ай бұрын
I honestly like this a lot better since it forces you to make conscious decisions about which tracks you're going to analyze. I tend to dump too much stuff on my usbs as it is already haha. I won't ever really need stems for well over 90% of my tracks.

None of the current controllers, or even full CDJ's will ever do live Stem analysis. The Qualcomm CPU's simply do not have the power to do this. You would need a controller with a Intel i7 CPU which of course will never exist. So fair enough really doing them ahead of time. A very welcome update !.
@AveryChow2 ай бұрын
you can do live stems with a controller if the laptop it's connected to has a good enough GPU (like a gaming laptop). there are definitely ARM CPUs fast enough for live stems separation but there will eventually come a point where you'll need active cooling like a fan of some kind to cool down the chip to process these stems and that's probably why manufacturers aren't too keen on putting crazy fast CPUs into these devices
@Koxv22 ай бұрын
I’d say cpu isn’t the problem. We already have good enough ARMs. The issue is the price (fast cpu, ram, better cooling), pro units are already crazy expensive. Imagine if they’d cost twice the price ;) It’s smart to prepare it all on PC. IMO they should let us use lower quality stems on unit itself (at least to cut off the vocals, leave acapella).

Great news, I wonder how this works in practice and whether Engine is able to make "clean" stems without too much artifacts/noise. Paying $10 for it does seem like a bargain to me as it opens up such a wide range of new performing options when you're able to combine vocals with any track. It bothers me a lot that you can't preview the stems from the desktop software though, that seems like a big missed opportunity. Especially since I don't have the 4+ and now apparantly have to wait for it to be released (I'm on the SC Live 4). The ability to export stems as separate .wav-files would be something I would really like, especially since I'm forced to switch to Pioneer/Rekordbox all the time for club setups. But I'm not sure if it's possible directly(?). Of course you can just play the vocal stem track from the controller and record it from there, but it seems like an unnecessary hassle so I hope Denon enables this QoL feature.

That's correct, it wasn't confirmed when we made our video so we couldn't say.

I don't mind the one time fee, but why do Prime4+ users get it for free?
@digitaldjtipsАй бұрын
Stems was promised to them (kind of) upon purchase

has anyone used Prime4 + with record box ?
@digitaldjtips2 ай бұрын
No, you cannot.

If only the format of the saved stems was cross compatible between products. Nobody wants to generate stems separately for each product they own.
@digitaldjtips2 ай бұрын
Although to be fair, most people stick to one platform generally. Good point though!

I rather wait till stand alone great quality stems. When they get great quality standalone stems it’s over for Pioneer and Alpha theta!
@gortys39292 ай бұрын
As long as it is one time payment I can accept it. I don’t like subscription for every little things.
@digitaldjtips2 ай бұрын
It will be $9.99 apparently

I seem to recall us talking about this taking a couple years before this appeared on hardware. (prep process to get the stems ready on the loaptop ahead of time aside). Stems in action in place of my normally painfully-sourced acapellas on the show last week on the Prime 4 Plus. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqe8eGywqLFgjc0si=Aud4vdJfofFdUHer&t=4241

It's s shame we can't play stems tracks via wifi pc engine os desktop. Having to export onto usb takes forever. Can't even export a new track, 1 at a time to an existing playlist on usb, so exporting entire playlists with stem seperation files is gonna take even longer.

it is a v1.0

@digitaldjtips Here's to hoping for those update rollouts
@dirk68522 ай бұрын
I'm glad to hear that, but the 4.1 update has made my Live 4 unusable. It freezes regularly, and when that happens, nothing works except the display. The support keeps delaying a solution, and the 4.2 update hasn't improved anything. This is slowly becoming detrimental to my business.
@digitaldjtips2 ай бұрын
Sad to hear that - hope it gets fixed soon!
@digitalbob2 ай бұрын
Try downloading 4.0 onto a USB stick and downgrade the firmware, then upgrade it again. My live 4 played up with a recent firmware update but a reinstall fixed the issue. Although hopefully the release in December will have a fix if you can wait that long.
@dirk68522 ай бұрын
@digitalbob According to Denon Support, a downgrade to version 4.0 or below is unfortunately no longer possible.
@digitalbob2 ай бұрын
@@dirk6852 oh that's annoying. Hopefully the soon to be released version clears up your issues.
@stephenshiels51792 ай бұрын
It costs $10. Which is a fair price to pay as long as it works. Hopefully not paying a fee for new and upcoming features though otherwise it could start to get out of control. In today economic state world wide. People cant afford a lot.

Anyone else thinking Alpha Theta might need to up their game. I got rid on my Prime 4 for an RX3, due to having an RX2 as well, might have regrets that now.

Well, as we say, it will work in standalone mode as long as you prepare them beforehand.

Not sure you understood but your just using the computer to "analyze" the music but once analyzed you put in on a flash drive or memory card and load it onto your actual hardware. You don't play it from your computer. Well at least that's what I understood and will do so with my original Prime 4. 😊👍

Good step in the right direction, but it be better if Streaming Services could be analyzed ( in general like rekordbox ) and with Steam separation . Hope there will choose a small one time payment instead of subscription. Else it gonna be problematic 😑
@strackete54412 ай бұрын
The fee will be 10$ (Source Mojaxx)

And fortunately it's a one-time fee, it's not a subscription. Not too expensive imo.
