I loved this video Julia!! I would love to see similar shoots with non-models to see how you get natural looking photos... my biggest challenge is telling people who are not comfortable in front of the camera what to do. This was super helpful and gave me a lot of ideas so I'd love to see more :)

You know what I like the most with her videos.. she shots normal girls, girls from out neighborhoods not super models. Great job
@WuschelofDespair6 жыл бұрын
Seriously one of your best videos ever. Dreamcombo and just a joy to watch. And you both showed extremely well how a good photographer, golden hour light and a wide aperture prime lens can make great photos in any location. The one where you had her sit on the ground between the trees, I thought "wow what a boring location" and then I saw your pictures: nailed it!
@han2012m6 жыл бұрын
Both of their cameras autofocus works so fast, I feel like my camera takes forever to focus on someones face. ugh lol.
@WuschelofDespair6 жыл бұрын
I think it also depends on the lens how fast the focus works. Canon is known for the industry's best auto focus but I was surprised by her Sony/Canon Combo. Until the new Mark 3 Models Sony's Cameras where always known for not so good auto focus and she even used a non-native lens with an adapter. I'm not heavily invested in Canon (1 old Camera Body and 2 lenses) so I'm really thinking about switching to Sony

This must have been a nice time spent together for both of you. I am so envious this was on the other side of the globe from my perspective... I really like your consistent style of photography where you do not pump up the colors that much. Even if it is very opposite to what I do with my photos. This gives your pictures a more film type of feeling at least to me. Still, the very best feature of the clip is that amazing accent of yours, Julia. Please, never change...

Julia and Kiara!!! Love this one so so much! It's really inspiring to see people get out of their comfort zone. I'm definitely going to do this with a photographer friend. Thank you for posting this!

Have you tried AF-C (autofocus continuous) on the Sony? I find that it’s the best setting for portraits on my A7 III, coupled with Eye-Af is unbelievable! Even when it doesn’t detect the eyes, it detects the face, and when the face is covered it focuses on the body, so is almost perfect for every scene that involves a model.

What? No new Canon 35mm? I really liked Kiara's traditional way of testing for the best light quality. Great video, two very good photographers, but whispers: *I think Kiara was shooting with a MKIII not MKII you put in the description below the video.* I really like the "Your camera screen is so clean." As they are words I’m never likely to hear being said to me.

How come when my settings are the same as yours my pictures are basically black? I have to change the shutter speed to like 1/80 for them to be bright but then they’re blurry of course. oh hey! I noticed that you were both shooting without a lens hood...so I was wondering was that intentional to get more flaring with the sun? or do u(and Kiara as well if you know) not use them in general or on particular lenses? I seem to be noticing more posts on instagram of gear people are using without them on and I wonder if its just for the shot(because it look cooler) or how they normally shoot. Great shots and video as always! :D
@kiararose95016 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Using a lens hood creates a more contrasted portrait, I love the flaring/backlight that comes with not using a lens hood, its a lot more soft! Just a personal style preference!
@juliatrotti6 жыл бұрын
Yep, I'm the same as Kiara, I personally prefer to capture lens flares in my photos. I would use a lens hood in some instances where I don't want a lens flare - but the majority of the time, especially in my personal work, I love it :)

HI Jullia, I love your back lit photos. Unfortunate I'm not good in getting my Canon camera with right settings. Can you please tell what settings do you use, exposure so and your back lit photos look so great? and model face nice visible, not underexposed? love your chanell
@paulvink19926 жыл бұрын
@Julia Trotti Hi Julia, thanks for your video's! I have been photographing for a while but I want to bring my skills to a next level. Your KZbin chanel really helps me a lot! I have a question for you. In some of your video's you underexpose your photos to make sure that you still capture details. So I am wondering, do you also underexpose the model (Kiara) in this photoshoot so that you can bring back the details in Lightroom afterwards? I also found that when I expose the lightning in a photo (with backlight) for the shadowparts of a skin, there are some skinparts that are so light that all details is lost. So I am wondering, do you set the exposure to the lightest parts of the skin, so that the details of those parts are not lost? And @2:21 Kiara tests the lightning with her hand. Can someone tell me more about that? Haha, I hope my questions are clear enough :)... Greetings from The Netherlands
@kiararose95016 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, I test the lighting with my hand to see how the light bounces and if my skin is exposed evenly, then it'll be a good place to photograph my subject! You should try it sometime!
@paulvink19926 жыл бұрын
Hi Kiara, Thanks for you reply! I will definitely try this technique :)
@juliatrotti6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I love underexposing photos to be able to retain as much detail as possible. So as you mentioned with the detail getting lost in the lightest parts of the skin, I make sure the expose for that so those parts of the face aren't lost :)
@paulvink19926 жыл бұрын
Thank you Julia! I will go and try this. The more I watch your KZbin chanel the more inspiration I get ^^

I’m curious because I use the Sony a6300 and I use manual focus for portraits because i feel like the autofocus really struggles to get focused on the eyes. Do you have the same problem out of the A7ii?
@juliatrotti6 жыл бұрын
I actually find that the autofocus on the A7ii is pretty good and the majority of the photos are focused on the eyes. The only real time I struggle with the focusing on that camera is when my subject is walking towards or away from me as it can't get it in focus fast enough.
