Like john said his not a developers,.. But his knowledge in tech is more deeper than any hardcore console and pc gamer out there...its really amazing how digital foundry had so much talent.. Gamingbolt is a wanna be digital foundry, i found out that gamingbolt is waiting for digital foundry to do the analysis first then they will copy 70% what digital foundry said what they found in the game... Gamingbolt has no credibility, as gaming analysis, they don't have the prove on their analysis, they dont even know how chekerboard rendering is... I can't wait til we see devs really using the geometry engine and getting the most out of it they can in the next few years. From everything I've read and heard that thing is the real heart of the PS5s GPU. Next gen only first party games releasing in 2023+ should be spectacular.

It doesn't just affect first party devs. Hardware compression for storage I/O is a feature of the new XBox and the newest DirectX standard on PC as well. The PS5 compression, as far as I know, is the most efficient, but all current gen platforms now have this feature, which is great news because that means that the way devs can think about world building changes drastically on all platforms.

I mean they had the entire last generation of consoles to learn parallel programming (and to an extend, the last-last generation as well, seeing how Bluepoint worked on some remasters for the PS3), yet the singlethreaded engine from FromSoft is still very much a bottleneck You have to look for a true complete rewrite to see the real potential of these new consoles
@jofellxcite
@jofellxcite 3 жыл бұрын
@@pipyakas unfortunately the real time interactive nature of games makes it harder to run things in parallel. It's not like you have the cell processor simulating fluid systems and sure, each particle could interact with each other and those could be parallelized. But with player input coming in to play as well as AI influencing environments, you can imagine how disruptions will be implemented / injected onto those parallel threads. That's tough since you're still going to have thread-locked resources still,and that's similar to having single-threaded applications.
@jofellxcite

@DoubleIntruder I would imagine though that multiple cores would be so much helpful with streaming and reading chat on a browser (in a pc). I could also imagine some of those cores in that 8-core zen2 are reserved for netcode and background tasks. I remember Watchdogs Legion implementing more sophisticated Ray tracing as well (reflections within reflections) that's more cpu-bound because they do those reflections on an interval rather than real-time (ie real-time to how the camera pans to a mirror or a reflective surface). That indicates to me that those are run in parallel rather than on the same high speed core. Tbh the camera is the real big culprit with these games not being able to run in multiple threads. I hope DF could make a video about how next gen games could be optimised more beyond your VRSs and your SSRs or cube maps. I love their episode where Alex Battaglia discussed how devs work on a time budget in Ray tracing in spider-man miles morales, describing further how every frame / millisecond count.

Finally someone explained it, PS5 SSD main purpose is ultra fast big data streaming, instant loading and unloading of game assets as your character turns or moves; it can fill the 16gb of ram for the next 1 second of gameplay thanks to Kraken decompression which can decompress up to 22gb of data per second. That's why Cerny said details and level design would see the most significant jump. Rift apart can load and unload worlds in under 3 seconds. Demon's souls is just a taste, they are not even utilizing the geometry engine yet, upcoming PS first party titles will be nuts.
@kraenk12

@@kraenk12 I don't see how that is feasible though. The problem is the ssd, while blazing fast doesn't remotely compare to the bandwidth of the vram's 448/gb's transfer rate. There is no feasible way to stream textures of an ssd or even act like secondary vram. There is no way to load and unload assets in an "instant". It seems like its more of a faster way of preloading and streaming data, not a secondary vram as they're implying.

@@richr161 yes it is like having a back up or partner to the ram. One of the most important elements in game visuals is asset quality (ie. texture resolution, geometry fidelity, asset diversity, etc.). Typically, the level of detail than can be loaded into a game is limited by the available memory in the RAM. Essentially meaning, even with the computing power to process the highest quality of visuals, the asset quality that can be loaded into a scene (or area) is still limited by the RAM size. As mentioned by Cerny, the SSD speed has been designed with the intention of enabling real time streaming of game assets in the players field of view. This 'Player FOV streaming approach' would be the most efficient way for developers to make games, as we no longer need to load the assets in an entire area, but instead, only what the player can see - allowing for the most level of detail. Now lets compare the pure streaming of data from the SSD of the PS5 against the Series X, (which has half the SSD speed) - in the context of the 'Player FOV streaming approach'. This means that double the amount of scene detail can be loaded in the same amount of time, and in theory, have double the scene detail within a players field of view. However, in reality, we still have to consider the RAM, meaning not all assets will be streamed from the SSD and therefore we can't say there will 'double the level of quality'. But what it will mean, is that developers have double the freedom when accessing data from the SSD. A developer can access more assets (or higher quality assets) without it being pre-loaded to the RAM first.
@alpha6games751
@alpha6games751 3 жыл бұрын
@@richr161 but essentially yes that what it does. It can make some assets instantly available that doesn’t even hit ram. So it’s like a secondary ram for high quality assets while the actual ram has other tasks.

As of right now, I don't think that there is a better looking game than Demon Souls PS5 on ANY platform. Oh, and it is super interesting that loading times have literally been slowed down, to allow the user to breath between cuts. Amazing, and very interesting!

Makes me happy that we have developers now calling 30fps a slideshow. About the resolution loss, I think the increased motion clarity from running at 60fps more then makes up for it. People need to stop using screenshots to compare graphics, whats the good if those sharp screenshots look like a blurry mess when things actually move.

Saying 30 fps is a slideshow is is nothing but ignorant and false. Some players can't tell much of a difference between 30 & 60 or they don't care much about it. Someone would think your talking about 15-20 fps experience so please cut the crap. I don't care if developer said it, it's a mistake and wrong.

That performance mode looks so smooth compared to the cinematic mode. Native 4k is not worth sacrificing 60 FPS in a Souls game.

I'm playing cinematic. Demon souls is a slower pace game, if it was bloodborne style then yea 60 is a must.

@@kbthegoat824 Why would you do that? There's no noticeable graphical differences, the devs said they designed the game around 60fps and one of the guys even called the game a "slideshow" and "jarring" at 30fps.

I like how the cinematic mode is almost a Trojan horse for the normal/casual gamer. It only offers 4k vs the 1440p with fantastic AA that makes them essentially impossible to tell them apart. The difference being double the frame rate at 1440p. This will really reveal the drawbacks and flaws of calling for 4k native instead of what can be accomplished with slightly lower resolution with great AA
@devonmarr9872
@devonmarr9872 3 жыл бұрын
@Orion Pax I know. It is just barely noticeable even when u have them side by side. As they say in the video. This is because of the AA reconstruction making it look better than 1440p. Don’t take it from me but the devs in the video.
