I know team ninja is essentially AA and have like a 2-3 year turnaround for games, so that adds context. But still Spider-Man 2 runs locked at 60fps, has a higher base resolution, better upscaling, more and better RT. Such a vast difference. It’s not really exactly like Sekiro tho. I was playing that game to get ready for this one. I would say it’s even slightly different than Wo Long. There is actually a small window of time you have to deflect BEFORE the attack actually hits you. In Sekiro you deflect AS the attack hits you. It really does feel different in action too. Took some getting used to. As far as the back and forth goes it is slightly different as well. It definitely has very similar rhythms and timing, but the way depleted health increases stagger in Sekiro is one major difference. I haven’t tried Nioh yet but sorely need to. Deflecting is a big part of RotR, but it also has a “Blade Flash” technique that allows you to regain stamina after a swing by cleaning the blood off your sword. (Really cool in action). It’s more about just pressing your enemy and using combat styles that counter theirs, while deflecting when needed. The amount of combat styles and weapon types in this game can seem overwhelming at 1st but once you get into it, it’s AWESOME. You are encouraged to switch to weapons and styles on the fly, depending on your opponent’s weapon and style. After a little practice it becomes fairly intuitive and the controls can be pretty seamless. (Which to me is paramount in a game like this) TLDR; this game is its own thing and somewhat unlike Sekiro or Wo Long. While the open world wasn’t the “best” in execution, I found the story and its historical context to be very intriguing. Then you add SICK combat and an overall GENUINE atmosphere, and Rise of the Ronin is one of the best samurai/ninja titles I’ve had the pleasure of playing 😊 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

That being said this game gives a sort of “film quality” when enhancing the image, but I actually didn’t like it. Called it since announcement. Rise and DD2 were bound to be those types of ambitious mid-generational titles that would require a mid-generational console upgrade to really shine. Now that it appears as though the PS5 Pro is going to release as early as this holiday season or beginning of 2025, it all falls into place. That's also one of the reasons I believe Ubisoft scheduled the release of AC Codename Red for around February or March of 2025. They want it to be well optimized for the PS5 Pro at launch the way HZD and AC Origins were for PS4 Pro and XB1X. For their time, mind you. Back then, checkerboard rendering and dynamic resolution were state of the art technologies and it was considered a breakthrough for consoles to deliver a locked 30 fps with checkerboard or Dynamic 4K.

You don’t need 300 million dollars to polish in-game systems before moving on to the next feature. They chose to prioritize filling the game with assassin’s creed style filler content and an open world over making sure the game runs smoothly and with a level of polish worthy of $70.

It doesn't cost much when you're not bandwith constrained. Usually on PC you aren't since GPU VRAM and System RAM don't share bandwith. On console bandwith is much scarcer. That's why it is pretty much the norm that console games have bad anisotropic filtering even today. It's kinda like textures not having performance impact unless you're out of VRAM.

Something tells me you don't whine like this for the dozens of Nintendo games because it's already expected, but when Sony and the PS5 FINALLY gets an actual true exclusive to justify its console, nah, we can't have that. GTA6 is inevitably coming to PC eventually too, just not immediately, because not the whole world revolves around you and the PC audience. Taking extra time to actually optimize the PC releases is a good thing if anything, instead of rushing it out the door when it's not ready and takes extra work than the console versions. PC gamers always want to have their cake and eat it too, and then review bomb the Steam page for some arbitrary reason anyway. @@kicapanmanis1060 “Any game that includes *60fps* *mode* MUST support *40fps* *mode* “ Idk if you lack comprehension skills. 40Hz mode will ensure that player can enjoy a smooth “performance-mode-like” experience without experiencing the game falling at sub-1080p resolution which is horrendous to look at on a standard 55inch 4K TV. Small developers can benefit a lot from this as they no longer need to stress out on trying to achieve a solid 16.6ms frame time as they know they’ll ship the game with 25ms frame time out-of-the-box. Less development time = More titles. This will help a small third party dev who can’t achieve a solid 60fps, that doesn’t have an elegant upscaling solution like Temporal Injection, Tangram Checkerboard Rendering etc.
