Playing the Wii version, I found the game didn't properly compensate for roll on the Remote, meaning that if you held the Remote sideways then a horizontal (to you) swipe would read as vertical, and vice versa. Which actually REALLY helped when crossing out the monster bounties (or just using Power Slash generally).

720p is technically HD and the Wii can do that resolution with component cables.

Probably, my biggest issue with the HD version is that it retains the draw distance/LOD settings from older versions so you see stuff pop up few meters away from you which becomes rather distracting.
@midknightfox175026 жыл бұрын
Klarden Hexadrive actually increased that load distance over the Ps2/Wii versions for the Ps3. It's still not far enough, I'll agree with you. But if you go back and play the SD games, it's noticibly better. I believe there's a video out there floating around that compares the load distance stuff too, if you are interested.

Touch imo is the best control for a drawing mechanic in just about any game, mouse comes second, gyro third, and analog stick is fourth, IR sensor (like with what the Wii had) is fifth, d-pad/arrow keys is sixth. Of course when it comes to _aiming_ on the other hand, mouse and touch trade places.

@@name5748 not ps2?? some dude posted on reddit:...Okami has been ported to a ridiculous number of consoles at this point, but only the original PS2 game includes the paper "shader" (technically it wasn't a shader, but if modern consoles wanted to implement it that's what they'd use) that made it look like a sumi-e painting, rather than the cartoonish brightness of later ports, and it really does make a difference.

The PS2 version stacked against Wii is fascinating because this sort of celshading in tandem with lots of post-processing was simply allowing the PS2's bandwidth and fill rate strengths - one of its key advantages - to run wild, whereas the Wii simply does not have this sort of fillrate or *48GB/s* GPU bandwidth. Very interesting game. PS3 version is also fascinating because of the 4K claim, but I would argue it doesn't even matter since 4x MSAA at 1080p in any capacity is great and is difficult to distinguish from a game actually running at 3840x2160 downsampled anyway.
@lostboy6266 жыл бұрын

Daniel Guiterrez - I suppose, generally speaking on console. I haven't played a Switch at all so I can only go off of what he said in the video about the motion controls of the Switch not being as accurate, nor do I want to play in portable mode for touch options. Best version sounds like it would be the PC since you can draw with the mouse and get 4K. But I rarely play on PC, don't have new hardware anyway, so it's not exactly an option for me.
@toonpik76 жыл бұрын
Also I believe the PS4 version lets you draw with the touchpad
@lostboy6266 жыл бұрын
asxciie - I read this too, I'm glad they did, but the touchpad is a bit too small for me to draw accurately. Hmm... too bad the Wii U didn't get a port before it died out. I think the touchscreen would have been great and get similar performance to the PS3/Switch, plus still use the touchpad while playing on your TV.

“AI” has been making and tuning up game assets for two decades
@Bones_2 күн бұрын
AI as a tool to refine the fidelity of an asset is not the AI that people are concerned about for those who have problems with AI, and it's also not the AI that people who are convinced it's "the future" are referring to either. Generative AI that's used to replace an artist is the problematic implementation. AI upscaling like for textures or DLSS is a fantastic assistive tool for when you want to improve performance or you don't have access to original game assets at a higher resolution.

Wii can't even do HD, the lowest HD level start from 720p. Wii only capable of doing 480p SD resolution as the highest, the ps2 is around 320p but a selected games managed to reach 480p and very few games got the option to go up to 1080i, Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo TT, Jak 2, Jak 3, God of War 1 God of War 2, Ape Escape 3, Tekken Tag Tournament.
@anasbakhit43036 жыл бұрын
@@SpookySkellyGurl you mean the ps2 games that was released on the ps4 with trophies support? those are not really running 1080p, they were up scaled to 1080p or should I say checkerboard 1080p using a similar methods the ps4 pro doing with games by doing checkerboard rendering to 4K. even if they're running at 1080p the textures on these old classics are still the SD res textures.
@ZinhoMegaman6 жыл бұрын
So let's correct some things: Wii is EDTV capable, SDTV is 240p/480i 15,75Hz, 480p is 31,50Hz which is not the same. PS2 is ED/HDTV capable but not even 10% of it's library are compatible, but you can force it to more games using homebrew, but it's mostly 448i. And like i said before 480p is somewhat considered as HDTV because you need one to enable it after all. And in no moment he says the Wii is an HD Remaster, he clearly says it is just a port. Oh, almost forgot, HD starts at 540p or even lower as some PS3/360 games have show us.

Borderlands is an example of a game that does not use cel shading but is commonly mistakenly described as cel shaded.

Thank goodness the Switch 2 will be out well before this sequel because with the touch screen that will probably be the best version gameplay wise and will now have much better performance and fidelity than it would've managed on the aging original Switch.
@AdvancePlays6 жыл бұрын
Again, the "best" version is not simply the most graphically consistent. The touch-screen drawing adds +10 points to the Switch version's favour, where not having tiny imperceptible drops of 1 frame per second (lol) is like +1 point in the other consoles' favour. So basically the Xbox version is the worst because unlike the PS4, Switch, or PC, there isn't a fast and accurate option for the celestial brush.

Good thing you pre-purchased it. Just in case they run out of digital copies.

I've been meaning to try this game for years and never purchased it for whatever reason and I recently found out that there's a physical copy of this on Switch in Japan that has English subtitles, so I imported it. After seeing this, I'm actually kind of glad I chose the Switch version. I already like the option of playing on the go, prefer physical to digital, and prefer carts to discs, however, after watching this, it seems the Switch version holds up very well to the other versions in the visuals and performance areas which makes me very satisfied.

Okami still holds up really good in 2021. $10 for Okami during this Steam sale.

The PS3 version might still be the best. If you don't go for 4K, it still has top-tier image quality, it reads pressure sensitive input for the brush so you can adjust thickness on-the-go while drawing. It adds more fun to this quite crucial feature of the game. You can also use PS Move motion controllers. PS4 version and all recent ports lack all of these I believe. Correct me if I'm mistaken but I think Switch doesn't even have pressure-sensitive triggers, while with the Dual Shock 3 every single button was pressure-sensitive.

I've been looking forward to trying this game out on the Switch (since I've heard nothing but good things), and I'm glad to hear the port isn't garbage.

Is that aspect ratio "issue" in all the new remasters?

Good job as usual guys! Quick question...why do you not use your capture device for your PS2? It looks like you are recording the screen when some video capture cards feature component (which the PS2 supports)

That’s the PS2 Shenmue, a game that deserved more attention back then.
