I don’t know if people are truly appreciating just how impressive performance is on these APUs. We couldn’t even dream of results like this just 10 years ago, even for games of that time. Now we’ve got iGPUs playing modern games? Incredible stuff. AMD has done great work in this space

Right? At 30W, it is basically twice the performance of a PS4. Which is insane. I'm thinking I'll upgrade from my Steam Deck to one of the Zen2 Xtreme handhelds and get an eGPU to replace my desktop for an all-in-one device.

@@DanKaschel the only problem is thatbright now , handheld would massively benefit from dlss because let's be honest 3 secondes , handhelds on high settings are closer to 540p than 1080p , i understand what you wrote , yet hope isn't a full meal I wish for fsr to finally be worth something when the internal resolution to upscale from is lower than 1440p as for xess dp4a , the initiative from intel tp make their ai upscaler available on most gpus is really nice but let's face it , the performance is tanking really hard , my lament here and now is the poor image quality to gain performance or when xess dp4a is available , the performance gains can be undewhelming tho the picture clarity goes up by 1000 x the quality that fsr provides today when the internal reslution is lower than 1080p you really have to pick 2 poisons , and these performance starved pc , needed the good quality from xess and the good perf from fsr .... dlss on another topic ; what i would really like to see if possible ( from intel ) is to make the xess dp4a as an intel driver feature that doesn't need to be implmented in game , so that when xess isn't implemented in a game we still would be able to get some performance back with decent image quality

Maybe I misheard him but I think he was a little off. It has a USB-A 3.2 10G in the back, a USB-A 2 0.48G, and a USB-C 4 40G port in back. The USB 2 port is important because many OS installers only support USB2 so a single USB2 port ensures that, for example, your keyboard will work even if you're using some odd Linux distro. The front port is USB C 10G. It's definitely not generous but I think it's adequate, and if you need more, the USB4 40GB should be perfect for a dock.

I managed to arrange everything so that I am able to sit on my couch, connect a controller to my AndroidTV streaming box, open moonlight and start the game stream. the price hike even popped in on my radar without even having to dig and am assuming it has something to do with the AI performance increase and RAM speed increase (7500 with max 8000 oc) on the die. Also suspect that the chip is also more costly due to the micro-architecture manufacturing process still being somewhat younger. Leads me to believe that this newer chip is something of a prelude to a future drop bringing something (potentially mind blowing) in from the periphery. Anyway, good vid. Really enjoyed the in-depth benching analysis (much appreciated).

$1200 with no Thunderbolt?? In the future, it would be interesting to connect an eGPU via the m.2 port via OCulink, as a way to show what extensibility is technically possible if the vendor/integrator had bothered.

Memory bandwidth is a real problem on Strix Point. More than double the compute stats but barely anything to show for it, especially at lower power limits. I wonder what things would look like with some v-cache slapped on top. 🤔

I'm always eager to see if a mobile GPU at 15 W is finally able to beat the PS4's raw GPU power and while it wasn't completely clear here it looks like this chip is able to do so. I suppose the first time we may actually see that sort of performance in a gaming handheld before upscaling will be in the Switch Successor's docked mode. And that will be nearly 12 years after the release of the PS4.

Incredible performance from AMD here. Still I am more than satisfied with streaming games from my PC at 1440p ultra, downscaled to 1080p over Steam link, to my iPad Mini or Logitech G Cloud. The Steam deck just can’t touch that experience as long as there’s WiFi available, e.g. from my phones ‘s hotspot.

Well, there aren't any Lunar Lake mini-PCs yet. Maybe that's why? That said, having tested STX vs. LNL, I can tell you that while LNL puts up good competition, when both are not power or thermal limited, STX is quite a lot faster. But it's also a much larger and power-hungry chip. LNL competes well at lower power limits.

All modern gaming mobile pcs should have a 4xpci e external gpu connection port. I seen people plug in 4090s and the 4x port is fast enough to get 90+% of GPU usage. An AMD has put out some great external mobile eGPUs with 12GB of VRAM so the bus isn't accessed exept for video output. Vram is loaded in one go, makes the 4x port at 60GBit a sec good enough to push any modern game without vram studering. These ports also super accelerated AI LLMs. Allowing you to push 80+TOPs of through put on a laptop is amazing.
