I've shared a few downloadable JPGs and DNGs from this experiment. These are straight out of camera JPGs and DNGs from the full spectrum PowerShot using the IR Chrome and Hot Mirror filters. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TVDKwznADK5Ul_3_rL76pCNwNY-AQjXn?usp=sharing

You can process the actual IR image and shift the orange into red and get a (in my opinion) better image than the emulation.

Hi Todd, coll Video, thanks for making the comparisons, what I would have loved to see is you editing the IR photo to a digital Aerochrome, and maybe also the IR Photo without Chrome Filter, to see how they compare, I feel like there might be a more "natural" surreal effect to be had with the unfiltered IR Pictures. :) Regards from Europe

Great Vlog, Interesting that a highly technical film that passed it's useful time now has sufficient interest to convert cameras and presets to emulate the original, thanks todd

aerochrome was invented to differentiate from foliage and camouflage, which is why you shoot IR in bright light and the tent isn’t affected in ‘real’ IR…just saying fir ppl that maybe haven’t watched the 1st vid…and then you could have mentioned at the end you can bring down the saturation in the ‘fake’ IR if it’s to much 🤷🏻‍♂️ but great vid showing the two methods and comparisons , IR is a great artistic expression medium it just opens up new worlds to explore, thanks 🙏

Very cool video series! I just recently converted a LUMIX S1R with KolariVision and picked up the IRChrome filter to emulate this style. Already gotten some.great results with it!

I liked your two videos, although it was a pity that some original photo reccie example pictures taken with Aerochrome could not be used to illustrate why the film was developed, however after a Google search I think finding Rocking Horse poo on-line would be easier. Your example with the green gazebo tent was a close second, illustrating an interesting concept. Thanks for the bit of film education

I'm well aware this is late, but the explanation of the way the sensor receives infrared isn't correct. All cameras come with a piece of glass in front of the sensor called a Low Pass Filter (Hot Mirro), it has many names, and it has a special coating which deflects or absorbs infrared and UV light, all sensors are able to receive infrared and UV, infrared much more so. When you remove the sensor, you get all the infrared, although some does leak through into the other color channels because the Bayer Mask on the sensor doesn't properly block infrared in the blue and green channels.

Can this technique be applied for video??

Emulation works ONLY when you capture vegetation. Otherwise it's garbage. The comparison is not so fair because emulation process uses curves and stuff. If you use the same tools on an IRchrome picture, it will bring it far beyond what emulation could.

Sorry but your video really doesn't flow well, you flitted back and forward between genuine IR and Photoshop and hotmirror so randomly, I really wasn't sure what you were trying to point out,
