Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today we’re screaming with the FreqOut, from DigiTech. The FreqOut is a natural feedback creator that lets you generate natural feedback without any noise complaints or hearing loss. While most feedback techniques require a ridiculous amount of distortion, the FreqOut works clean, at any volume and even without an amp in the room. The FreqOut reads the incoming harmonic content of the signal, and gives you the ability to focus the feedback on a certain frequency range, for all kinds of creative feedback applications far beyond that of a simple roaring amp. DigiTech gives the FreqOut’s switch the royal treatment, by making it true bypass as well as switchable between latching and momentary modes. The Momentary mode is especially useful for players that want only short bursts of concentrated feedback. A handy Dry Kill toggle switch eliminates the dry signal for 100 percent pure feedback, which lets you sculpt the raw feedback with pedals for tons of extra textures. Two concentric knobs for Gain and Onset let you tailor the feedback to your needs, letting you adjust the flavor as well as the time it takes the feedback to get cooking. And just like all other DigiTech pedals, the FreqOut is housed in a rugged metal chassis that will last a lifetime of gigs.

That’s quite correct. Our manager, Sir Dennis Eaton Hog, stipulates that each venue provides at least 6 freqouts and full size sandwiches backstage. Of course, we received 6’ tall freqouts recently. Can’t use those buggers.

Digitech is on fire lately. I can't think of a reason to buy this but it does look fun. I just like that they're clearly investing into research and development and not flooding the market with a bunch of the same style pedals that have been around for 30 years.

Actually this is insanely useful.... I've been going to hell and back to try and replicate the sound of a sustainiac with a pedal, and seemed to be impossible or very hard to achieve. But this pedal looks like it's doing exactly that! Worth a shot for sure, can't wait to try the FREQout.

" I can't think of a reason to buy this but it does look fun." I can't think of a reason not to buy this! Feedback is a blissful expression of electric guitaring that is usually unattainable unless all conditions are right, meanig that you have to live without it most of the time, which truly limits your creativity...

@@nelsonvontitfuk1471 that's the thing the way hendrix used feedback was awesome, and it mostly came from the amp, i'm not sure you can capture what he did in a pedal. Are you talking about the opening of Airbag, which he does in a really interesting way because it sounds absolutely nothing like the original (which is a Shredmaster doubled by a cello)? He does get some sounds that are spookily like Ed, though. And by coincidence I was playing There There this morning: this pedal would make Thom's parts in that a doddle.

I am pretty impressed by this thing. Some of the new effects coming out there are pushing the envelope and not just redoing delays, reverbs, flangers, wahs, etc. The trick is to still be in the musical realm and not be gimmicky. First it was the E Bow, then Boss Feedbacker...then the Fernandes Sustainer which when installed severely alters your guitar. NOT what I would want. The EBow ties up your entire right hand. The Boss pedal wasn't leaps and bounds beyond its already available compression sustainer. The Freqout is long overdue and when or if my local store gets one, I may get one.

Yep it actually came from a really beat up Strat that he bought because he saw it in a pawn shop window and he liked the color, when he got back to the studio just to mess around with it he noticed every time he quit playing it, it would immediately feedback, messed up pickups, he actually told the story on a commercial on MTV back in the 90’s when they actually played music, once I saw that I bought my first electric guitar which was a strat, tried to nail that squeal forever, but you can get damn close with this, and the feedback squeals made with a ebow on U2’s with or without you

This is fucking awesome. I hadn't heard of any pedals that generate feedback like that until now (I'm sure there are others), but this seems super conducive to ambient textures and soundscapes

The harmonic/supernatural shimmers reminds me of some of U2’s ballady stuff. Totally want it! ...not just for that reason though lol

While I appreciate the technology, would Gary Moore have used one of these on Parisienne Walkways? Some people will find uses for it but, it will take all the fun out of trying to find that sweet spot. When I make this sound happen on stage (the old fashioned way), myself, my band, and the audience get something from it, smiles all round, this pedal I think, would take all the joy out of it.

I think he said "offset" but meant to say "onset". Thou art forgiven.
