But not really IDM.
Let's make a sequence from scratch on the Elektron Digitone and then perform with it!
The Elektron Digitone is a 4-part, 8-voice FM synthesizer groove box with amazing diversity in sound and playability.

I've noticed that you always manually quantize after recording. Digitone has quantized recording mode which I, who can't really play keys, like a lot. Is there a reason you don't use it?
@chrisj5547
@chrisj5547 2 жыл бұрын
If you record in unquantized you can then quantize to a fraction of being fully quantized, e.g. 90% if you want to leave it slightly "off grid"

Wow, did not expect to hear Working for a Nuclear Free City namedropped today. "Je Suis Le Vent" is one of my favorite songs of all time. Heard it in a bar when I was moving across the US and had to ask the bartender the song title. Excellent video!

Every single time you post one of these I go back and play with my Digitone. I’m just reminded what an amazing instrument it is. I haven’t paired it with my Zoia Euroburo yet, so I think that has to be my next playtime. Thanks for all you do here. So inspiring!

I did a remix of England by Working for a nuclear free city for a competition of their label around 12 years ago. I think they wanted to give the winner an LP of their new album and as I was the only one who submitted a remix, I was confident in winning. Never heard back from anyone though. Maybe the remix was bad or they were disappointed in the turn out, who knows. Anyways, great track, Jeremy!

It was great to see your process on this one, I love the final result. I think the Digitone may be a future investment for me, been trying to round out my Eurorack set up with some polyphony. This could be the ticket.

Been awhile since I've watched your videos and its the first time I'm hearing your voice haha. Takes a bit to get used to, but I think having your voice and talking through what you're doing is better/very least, good, for your channel longterm but I will say, I do miss the occasional videos of only funny little text captions popping up while you make a song, do you still do those types of videos? Would love for more of them :)

Your Digitone series is always great. I love the rhythms and textures you get out of it, and in particular, all the fascinating harmonic variations and overtones. With math, skill, clever setup, and a nice interface, you make it spit out far more notes than you put in, and it's all harmonically cohesive. It always leaves me wondering though... what if one could play these patterns in the same manner as a Wavestate? Like, the sound design, rhythms, probabilities, etc, are all there in the pattern... but the note schema would come in over midi from a keyboard or sequencer? The Digitone would effectively act like an extremely fancy and expressive arpeggiator, even more so than what the NDLR does, and then you could play it by shaping the key/scale/chord in real time while also using control-all to adjust the timbres. Not even sure if that's possible without changing the firmware. TL;DR: Loved the video and your music, and by the end I found myself wanting to get a job at Elektron, to add features which would allow you to add another layer of complexity and movement.
