For your "Secret Garden", the white really looks nice on the fence side, it really pops! You bring me so much inspiration for getting into my flower gardens, and patio planters. Last year I started to overwinter a few flowers and loved it. This year I am researching each of my so called annuals, and finding that 2/3rd of them can be overwintered in various forms, and this week I'm dedicating this project. It will be amazing, to be able to have more of each flower, and also, to not have to go out and purchase them next spring. My daughter is moving into a home this winter, and loves to have flowers, we have a large flower bed at our house that she started, and so I am going to bless her with some of my overwintered flower plants.

Where you're planning to add more compost, leaving the supertunias in the ground will be more beneficial than removing the plants. Leaving roots in the soil is very beneficial for soil health. Have you thought about cover cropping? There are some that are meant for breaking up compacted soil.

Your secret garden…you could do a koi pond on the fence side. It would be so pretty and the girls would be able to see from their rooms. Ponds do not have to be huge. Ours isn’t and we have koi and goldfish. I love it

Just keep amending and mulching your soil and over time it will improve. I topdress my entire yard with 4yards of compost twice a year, once in mid to late October then a again around mid March. The winter and early spring rains wash and work it into the soil

In the secret garden is your lion fountain, therefore, I think, you should call it "Lion Lane". Depending on what direction you go you could also call it the "Secret Safari'. Since it is so separate from the rest of your garden zones, you could really lean into a niche setting.
@MyFocusVariesАй бұрын
Insomnia gets me an early view of your tour. 😂😢 You've put in so much work, and it really shows. 🌹 ❤️ Cucumber can be bitter when it's stressed, so maybe not enough water would be my first suspicion because of your heat. Where you're going to add compost, don't remove the supertunias. Just put the compost over them. Leaving the roots in the ground is really good for soil health. Have you thought about cover cropping?
@jenniferkessener1111Ай бұрын
You have done so much! Monty is a delight. What a goof. You might try Japanese cucumbers next year. They need to climb, but grow nice long mild cucumbers. You can roast some of those prolific tomatoes with garlic and italian seasoning. Either use with chips as a dip, mix with pasta, or blend and make soup.

Janey , cuke bitterness is usually a combination of heat stress and not enough water-they are thirsty plants. Next year try Armenian cukes, they are technically melons and don't have the bitterness issue. Extremely heat tolerant. I got the seeds from Botanical Interests.

Gardening goals! As for the shoes I HIGHLY recommend you bring your shoes in and keep them there black widows will crawl into your shoes nest and lay eggs. Even if you use your shoes often and knock them out you can not be sure they will get knocked out. The tiny black widows are the MOST venomous and can kill in less than an hour. It just is not worth it, we are in Ca., it part of life here in Northern Ca. especially it looks like you are in a more rural location so add scorpions and snakes to that list. :/

I can’t plant anything in it.. does anyone have recommendations on what I could do to plant anything in the ground?? What do I amend the soil with?? Could I bring it top soil and make beds?? Right now I have to grow in containers and only have one large raised bed. I just don’t want an only raised bed garden 😫😫
