Leaves are great mulch, they add nutrients to the soil when they break down, and reduce weeds......please save your energy for other things. I'd blow the leaves off your pathway and onto your garden beds. Those ferns are doing really well, maybe think about adding some other shade loving ferns. And some small crocus and muscari would be so pretty if planted in groups of 7 or 9, in some areas that get a bit more sun in this part of your fern garden, for early spring colour. Just some ideas, happy 😊 gardening, Jo. I(t's spring here in New Zealand, so I've been planting like crazy, larkspur, delphinium, penstemon, asters, pin cushions, dahlias, brunfelsias, dianthus, knipfolias, and for shade, hellebores, hostas, dicentra, brunnera, heuchera, iris, pulmonaria, lamium and button ferns.)

Everything is relative… here in Seattle a sunny 50° day would be what I’d call perfect for gardening. So funny… 😂😁👩🌾

Your weed is Galium aparine, aka Bedstraw. Definitely pull it before it flowers. It is a perennial and produces lots of seed if you let it go to seed.

Looks like it could be petty spurge to me. My motto is if I didn’t plant it and I can’t identify it - it’s out of there!

Definitely Galium aparine.

We called it Velcro weed growing up because it would stick to your shoe laces. Thankfully it’s easy to pull up, but it covers my backyard every year.

Everything looks so beautiful. We got our first freeze for the year early. I spent all last week moving plants to the greenhouse. Hope your day is wonderful.

I’ve just completed my late Spring prune back here in South Australia, we’ve had so much rain and the garden was already out of control. The daffodils and jonquils are being stubborn and won’t brown off, my and my anemones and ranunculus had only the random flower here and there as I’ve removed the dead stuff around them… I’ll be sad to see them go for the year, they brought me a lot of joy, but I guess my roses, gladiolis, fox gloves and more are showing off in the mean time. There’s always lots of weeds tough, they never go away 😖. I was told to not pull onion weed as it stimulates more growth if they snap off before the bulb, so I had to buy weed spray last autumn. (Which I dont like using). Some started coming up in Spring but so far I’ve been digging the whole plant up instead to see if that works better as a control method. Wait and see hey!

Ugh, that sticky weed is the WORST!! Glad you got them pulled before they go to seed. They will climb up through your other plants and when you try to pull them at that point, all their little seeds fall out and spread everywhere. Seems like I was pulling those out over & over this year. Hoping to eventually eliminate them completely!

Your weed looks like Goosegrass (Cleavers) comes with many names 🥰 lovely clean up 🥰
@linetteterry18452 жыл бұрын
My app says your weed is Cleavers, a species of Bedstraws (Galium). Also know as Catchweed bedstraw, stickyweed, Goosegrass.....just to name a few! 😉

It's finally gotten cold here, and windy, which I hate when it's cold. You should show that weed to your garden people when class starts, or now I guess.

I am definitely planting some veronica next year! We just got about 8 inches of snow dumped on us and I wasn’t able to get all my fall clean up done before it snowed so I have lots of work to do in the spring!

Purslane, safe and even edible
@lanabisson26752 жыл бұрын
that weed might be cleavers or possibly purslane. Purslane has a more succulent look. cleavers eventually as it matures sticks to your clothing like velcro, both have medicinal uses. but I tend to pull them away as they take over things.

Remembering what the oak garden looked like before you gave it a makeover, I think it’s looking great (and what phenomenal ferns!!!). Just a thought, maybe instead of doing a fairy village, the girls could do a mini snow-covered village with a nod to Christmas. 😉 Loving your work. And I’m enjoying seeing your colder weather - it was 31°C (87.8F) and 87% humidity here today, so all my watering got done early!

Sticky weed or catch weed…that’s what we call it. I use to have it everywhere, but have slowly gotten rid of the big patches. I pull them up as soon as I see it’s ugly head. Pulling it out works the best, but I’ve also poured boiling water on it or sprayed it w vinegar. It’s gotten cold down here in Houston, also….brrr, lol! It feels great, I love yard clean up when it’s cool! No mosquitos, haha!

That weed looks like cleavers ( gallium aparine) , very sticky! we get it here in the uk it’s easy to pull but a bit of a pain… Keep warm Janey xxx

Hi Janey, would you pls tell me how often you will be putting ice cubes on your peony this Dec. Have you tried this before? I read an article this summer with that recommendation so I'm going to give it a try myself. Cold over here in Windsor too, it's hard to predict the weather anymore. . .Have a fab week!

I think that weed is called robin-run-the-hedge. It’s known by other names too. It’s sticky and can be very invasive.

I think your weeds are bindweed. Not nice😕 I thought that's what it was when you put it up to the camera but then when you said it was sticky that confirmed it. It's nasty if you let it take hold so keep pulling it 🌿
@bonniethom82912 жыл бұрын
I offer the suggestion that you add some height (multi-levels) to your fairy garden by adding rock borders then filling with soil. From the walls created you can lean a ladder, make a waterfall that flows into a brook (create with blue marbles from dollar store). Add a beach next to waterway (use landscape fabric underneath sand). Make sections using fences (make with sticks), rocks, etc to allow for houses with yards, walkways, gardens, patios. Add tall birdhouses. Hotglue items to rocks to keep them in place. Plants and groundcovers can better be controlled when in sections (wooly thyme, dymondia, dichondra). (I love fairy vine but too invasive). Add overhanging plants outside the garden to create seclusion underneath. Add larger plants outside the garden to provide background. Once established the fairy garden is easily maintained and altered. Don't forget fairy lights and small solar garden lights. Glad you and your daughters are enjoying the fairy garden
