Am I the only one who actually loves the look of whitewashed tree trunks? 😆 Where I grew up in Asia, all the trees are whitewashed with lime, sometimes mixed with copper sulphate - this not only acts as sunscreen but also acts as a fungicide and pest deterrent. I think it looks really cute, like the trees are wearing knee-high socks, lol. I’m actually shocked that people use latex paint for this though, that’s wild! You learn something new everyday!

A girl after my own heart! I love a list and I also love marking off completed items. I get so distracted in the garden, it keeps me focused! Love your mulch. I always say that when I put out my mulch, it’s like finding the perfect pair for shoes for a favorite outfit. It just completes everything!

I agree on the center island grass..Monty needs a place to run and the kids need a lawn. Also..we have lots of solar up lights in warm white and they looks great on the house and trees

I have used gravel glue successfully. I have pea gravel near an entrance and the gravel would get stuck in the treads of our shoes and we’d end up scratching our floors. So much better now. Monty is growing like a weed. ❤

Good morning Janie. Lavender does last longer then 2 years if you cut it back every year and don't let it get woody at the bottom. Once it starts to become woody then yes it only last as long as you want it and it becomes leggy and not so good looking.

Crazy how people haven’t heard of painting tree trucks white. We do it in Minnesota and we are like the coldest state! 😂 we actually use tree guards. Ugly things in my opinion, but it’s a plastic guard that protects the tree from sunburn, from bucks scraping their antlers on the trunk, and from rodents eating the bark under the snow in the winter. We put them in all our trees until they are more mature to protect their young soft bark/trunks.

I'm glad you moved the butterfly bush and rose into the orchard. With all that space to work with, I think it will be more rewarding for you to do one section at a time. Also, the orange trees are not so glaring with the light brown. Good call on those! You're killin' it, girl!

For the front island, if you're not touching it this year, a cover crop of crimson clover (or something equally nitrogen fixing, pollinator friendly) might be worth considering to keep the dust/wind erosion minimized. Then when you have the time and budget to work on the space, you have even better soil than before. Thank you for sharing your journey with us!

I garden in Zone 7 and have been fertilizing my perennials, shrubs, etc. the past two weeks. I use golf tees to mark the plants that are done. Then when I’m finished in an area I remove them. Keeps me organized. Love watching your channel and seeing your sweet puppy!

Living in Phoenix, zone 9b, we paint all our fruit tree trunks with the brown paint instead of white paint..our summer temps are hotter than Davis and our tree's are just fine using brown paint...plus it just looks 100% better than weird white trunks..🌳

You have probably already completed your diamond pattern entrance by the time you read this...but I was thinking that you could just slide the next row of pavers right next to the other pavers without the gravel inserts...in other words two rows of just pavers when you first enter then the gravel portion starts. Since it is right where the entrance begins, it can be a bit of a different pattern. I don't know how to explain what I mean, but I'm sure whatever you end up with will be lovely. Enjoy watching you make your dream a reality!

Love the new paint color. 🌳White latex trunk paint is usually diluted with water, just a heads up. Try getting covers/cap for pvc pipes.

I agree with the other viewer, a lawn in the center front would look awesome in contrast to all of the stone and mulch. I know in California, indulging on a lawn is frowned upon due to water usage but it would look really lovely

I vote to leave the lavender in place until you take out the planter. You may be pleasantly surprised at how well the plants do this year. But most definitely trim out the old growth. That is a ambitious list for one day! You go girl! P.S. Monty is becoming a sweet garden dog.

Janey, you finished a LOT today! I like the more neutral trunk paint color than the white. Good choice. And your strategy of not planting the center front area this year makes so much sense. But I do hope you think of a way to camouflage the white propane tank. I think you can still prune back the lavender and I bet if you trim back the verbena it would flush a lot of fresh growth and flowers. Monty is getting so big!

Fruit trees in northern Minnesota are also painted painted white to protect them from the intense summer sun as the sun comes up at 5:30 in the morning and sets at 10:00 at night.

Yes, the tan brown paint blends in nicely on the trees. Looking so good with each thing you do. I wrote down that rose recipe, and will try it this year!
