Janey! Consider moving the mulch in the center island to the border beds. This way at least all the borders will be the same and if chip drop brings you something different next time, it would just be the island. Amazing how it’s transforming right in front of our eyes! Looks fantastic.

That would have been my choice too. Especially not knowing if she could get the same for the next load. Better to complete a bed than to have 2 beds unfinished or with different chips in my opinion.

I agree. Better to have all the beds the same but one. Otherwise you might end up with two different.

Where in the world did you find those boys?! Wherever it was, you struck gold! They are such hard workers, and do their work thoughtfully. It is probably bringing them as much pleasure as you to see the garden be transformed because of what they are doing. That certainly was a lot of wood chips, but I wasn't surprised that you needed more. That is a pretty big piece of property that you have there, lol! I love the way that mulch can make things look so tidy and clean, don't you? Hopefully you will be able to get more of the same so it all can match. As the mulch breaks down, it is going to do so much good for you soil! Even though you had dark clouds, it is wonderful to see you back on your two feet, and being able to work in your new garden. I love seeing Monty "helping" you with your gardening. Everything is really starting to take shape, isn't it, and spring is in the air with all the flowers starting to awaken. Life is good...💐🥰

Your property is looking great Janey! It’s amazing how much has changed in such a short time. We ❤chipdrop too, it’s great for building up raised beds so you don’t need so much garden soil, and this type of arborist’s mulch is so much better for building up soil health than the dyed stuff sold in bags. It also supports the beneficial insects and the little ecosystem around your garden. I used to be a fan of the black mulch because it looks clean against our modern style house, but now I know better; plus less money on mulch means more money can go towards more seeds and plants🪴🤩

Oh my goodness Janie! What a difference the mulch made. I am sooooo happy for you. 🥰 This was such a satisfying video to watch. Not just because of the mulch, but to see a sneak peak of the tulips (they look magnificent, especially with the dark fence background). And to see the greenhouse looking so beautiful and so perfectly styled! Love, love, love it all. ❤️ Go and make yourself a cup of tea and sit in your garden and congratulate yourself for creating such a wonderful space (and in such a short amount of time). Well done to all your helpers too of course, they have been fantastic ‘muscle’, but your vision and leadership (even from a hospital bed) has been amazing. We absolutely love watching your channel. I know it feels great to have come as far as you have, with broken foot and all! Congratulations. I’m wondering, would you ever plant some grass in some areas??? Maybe it’s too hard to grow in your area, but it would provide such a pretty, restful, green. It could be removed as you widen beds. Just a thought. You’re doing a fabulous job and it’s fun to see your steady progress.

Gertrude Jekyll is related to a field botanist in early America, Thomas Catesby, who traveled through the area which is now Florida, creating drawings and descriptions as he went along. He is credited with introducing Magnolia and other plants to Europe. Jekyll, who studied art, favored use of these plants in her designs. Smithsonian recognizes the horticultural influence, as well as the Jekyll family relationship to naturalism over hundreds of years, in an interesting article on the Smithsonian site.

You are a fresh breath of sunshine to my day! Just a thought - why not consider a temporary screen of some sort to hide the propane tank from the street side of your property? You could use something that could be moved and used in another area later on such as the laser cut steel screen your designer talked about in your consultation. You could make something great out of an eyesore with no financial loss as the screen would be used in your design down the road. I'm landscaping a 3-acre property in NC so I understand we have to live with less desirable things for awhile but as long as you have a plan, it's so much fun to progress. Love your family and your gardening journey.
