Trimming the silver falls will make It look better

I agree with most comments silver falls needs trimming ...Great channel

I also suggest trimming the silver falls. The zig planter is going to look ruff during the winter months with the shaggy grassy and now sparse looking silver fall, trim up what you can now to tidy it up. I am so excited to see the fresh new growth of the grass come spring! 😍🌱

The front planter looks neater. Suggest trimming bottom of silver falls back for a nicer look. The totem pole panicum looks interesting!

The Lantana would have been pretty outside the fence by the road. Nice bright pop of color, but you would only see it coming and going.

My experience with azaleas here in zone 9 is that they will do better in a filtered light situation. They will also need LOTS of water in summer. They love compost, acid fertilizer, and protection from our screaming hot sun. Also, good luck with the boron situation out there. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

My experience with azaleas is they need shade and prefer more moisture than they will get in the center area.

I’ve always dead headed the flowers off the plants when planting. It’s my understanding it helps the plant put energy into rooting in instead of flowers. I do a lot of pinching of my annuals all season too. Especially coleus! They get long and leggy so fast if you don’t pinch the new grow regularly.

You might like to try lambs ear under the black walnut! And a forsythia which also handles the toxins well. They come in a varity of sizes and are stunning in spring when not much else is really going yet.

I live in south OC, CA and my Azaleas needed almost all shade, had a a tiny bit of sun in the morning. They did fabulous with shade so it’ll be interesting to see how yours does. You never know unless you try right? No garden is the same! 😊

I agree with thinning out the silver falls. It’s overtaking the planter. ( looks like a little hula skirt now)I think the new grasses will be a great way to give you more room for all the plants your planning on adding in the spring. Your garden beds look amazing even in the fall. Wish I could say the same for mine in zone 5. Have a great day!

Good luck with the azaleas. I’m in 8a NC, many azaleas in this area - some afternoon shade for them is a given here, but perhaps newer varieties can handle more afternoon sun. I maintain a daily garden to do list, as well🌻 I enjoy your channel.

Hi Janey, I like to see the improvements from day to day and there was a zone today where I thought wow, it really is getting fuller ! Yeah, lists help, although sometimes if I have lots to do, seing it on paper can feel overwhelming. I really can see your youngest daughter in you today ^^

May be the real reason why plants suffer underneath black walnut tree is the bed soil not so much the tree itself? I would dig a twice bigger hole, mix it 50:50 with good compost-manure blend and cover area around with compost. Hope you will find a solution. Love your channel.

Thanks for the inspiration! We just had the interior of our home repainted and going through things to pair down ugh. I have 2 of the PW Azaelas amd my violet one is blooming. Just LOVE them. They need more sun so will need to move them and get some more to border my garden bed. Bet they will be fine in your sun. Also you might like Samantha Lantana. Yes it is yellow but the variagated leaves make this like no other. Several even overwintered for me last year. I plant these every year for the butterflies .

I have some established azelas in full shade, and they are thriving. They are an older variety, but still, yours might be happier in less sun. (I'm about an hour away from you in the mountains, so I'm sure that plays into how well they grow)

Love the pink lemonade effect of the penstemon with the lemon tree! 🌷🍋 I'm excited to see how your monarda performs. I planted several this spring (they were in my video you shared for zone 10) and one didn't root in but I replaced it and they've all been thriving since! I have so many pollinators on them every time I'm in the garden! 🐝🦋🐞🌿

Your Azalas should be fine. Here in zone 9a they do like afternoon shade however I have my Encore azalas in full sun and I've noticed in August they start to stuggle but now they are budding up and about to bloom with our cooler days/nts. I use compost & chopped pinestraw (from a local garden center) as a mulch around the base to keep their shallow roots cool & protected. They love pinestraw, I guess its the acid it provides. Love your garden and especially your new trees🌳😍

Morning! I’ve had good luck with daisies and sea holly (Eryngium) under my neighbors messy black walnut tree that’s close to the fence like you. And Autumn Joy Sedum, but that’ll grow anywhere.

Purple fountain grass popular in Florida.but not reliably cold hardy here in NW Florida . We have native Eastern Black Walnut on clay soils near limestone.

So nice that you and your husband work together in the garden! ❤ You may already know this, and I don’t know your circumstance with your neighbor…A good neighbor would trim their tree or have it professionally trimmed. You have a legal right to trim any limb that is coming over the fence into your property. You do not, have the legal right to damage the roots system in anyway. If you decide to trim the tree, I would recommend letting your neighbor know your plan. I’m curious to see how the azalea does in the full sun. I know some of my larger leaved rhododendrons can take full sun, but I am on the coast.

Hi Janey, I'm in Louisiana, and Azaleas are in almost every yard around here. I have one that is over 30 years old! I am curious to see how the ones you planted do in full sun. Most Azaleas here are planted around pine trees where they get dappled sun or planted where they get morning sun and afternoon shade. I hope they do well for you. 😊 Happy gardening! 🌼

I"m very interested to see how the new-type azaleas fare. Our nursery keeps them in the shaded area so I'm very curious to see if they actually CAN handle our hot sun in real life. I've been hesitant to try them, but if they survive for you, they should survive here too! South valley - zone 9

I enjoy your videos every morning! Question - did you consider adding some of the purple fountain grass among the crape myrtles in the back? I thought the different textures might be good together? Love watching everything come together. 😊

To Janie and Robbie, You may enjoy watching Gail Vann videos. She started with flat land. She uses a lot of the same plants, grasses and trees in her garden that I see in yours. She has trails, made her own garden art, lots of color in plants and trees. She has huge curb appeal. Her garden flows with all sections. I hope you enjoy💙🐝🦋🌻.

OH MY GOODNESS don’t let the black eyed Susan’s vine get out of control. I did because in the beginning it looked nice, then the HOT HUMID weather set in and I stayed in the house, I am now TRYING to pull up that beast of a vine, ITS ALL OVER THE PLACE, so beware. 😱 🎃🍁💚🙃

I’m wandering why you don’t trim the black walnut away from your fence? Hopefully it would help. Also, I agree with trimming the silver falls. I’m anxious to see how well the azeleas do. I’ve always wanted to grow them but never have any luck. I’ve heard there are sun azeleas grown by Southern Living. I might give them a shot, if I can find them.

Love the totem pole grass. Heuchera in dark colors would really set off the lighter colors of grass & dichondra. Are water needs are similar? I love flowers but foliage is under rated.
Janey September I have read that Azaleas can be poisonous to dogs. I planted three this year and didn’t know this until a friend told me so I looked it up and she was correct so please check it out because Monty is still young and chews on things.
