Ohhh nice..! I never seen a black hand pan at ur store.. It looks awesome ... I loved the sustain that came from the heat treatment... Or Do u think it's the nitrated coating thats solely responsible for the increase in tone or maybe it's both? Man Im still undecided on choosing a model.. Or maybe a custom one can be made? What is the starting price for custom pans? Can I perhaps build one that does not have to much esthetics to it. Say if we leave off the stuff that doesnt affect the sound or thats not actually needed. I want to keep within a building budget of 17k - 23k if that's possible? All I would like is a more of a basic type practice model mainly to relieve stress and advance my percussion skills and learn a new instrument Im not really looking for a pro series performance type . I'm just going to use it to make personal sounds and samples for beat/music making and sound scapes. So It doesn't need the fancy looking parts.. Just the pan..hopefully that can limit labor to keep within budget .. So I can added more notes..that Is key to this build. D minor 440Hz with 10 notes(adding more if still within budget)...thanks! P. s. If u have something similar already made that could work for me. Even if it's not something u were going to put online for sale urself. Like it may have a minor flaw that still sounds good but just couldnt sale it like that. I'll buy it from u as it...... As long as it fits my purpose..! Wow is that hybrid tongue drum x handpan in the background rite there. With tongues on top.. Uhh interesting....so wait can we add tongues to a custom build???

Great Dave ! You are the Legend ! Sounds fantastic and compact , looks amazing as well !! What is the temperature in this coating process , less then 500 c" ? and do you anneal it later , after tuning, while that finished layer is on ? if is not a secret . Thanks !

Sasha Mihalik Hi Sasha, Thanks for the compliments! I anneal the steel with a propane torch, then tune the shell, then get it powder coated with the Clarity coat (I believe the oven is about 450F and heats the steel one more time). I think the powder coating oven helps to produce the clear sound I get. I noticed a brighter sound with steel drums, too. I originally started to experiment with powder coating steel drums in the early 2000’s. The Clarity coat is particularly nice. I like its performance a lot.

how much to tune my 9note terratonz pan ? its just sitting rusting - needs new paint & tuned in A=432hz i am in baltimore MD , how long would it take , a few months or never

One thing I came to wonder is, That powder coating ll get damage with re-tuning /hammering. And a re-powder coating need to blasting and a issue with it self. Or? Greetings 😊

heidi ingensdotter Hi Heidi, Thank you for your questions! I was concerned about the same things before I found this coating. This coating has been performing very well. I use cotton on my hammers to tune the top side to avoid making hammer marks and scratches. If you use a plain steel hammer, yes, it will scratch and/or damage the finish. The tuner needs to be aware of this before tuning it. Also, yes, it is possible that the finish could be damaged by sharp or abrasive objects. But most musical instruments have the same potential for damage. It is important to be aware and take care of it. If it did get scratched deeply I would not suggest getting it sand blasted. I would just try to patch it with another product like paint or even Frog Lube to keep rust from developing. Sand blasting will remove the coating entirely and also put all of the notes completely out of tune. I have done this before but I do not suggest it. Lastly, the coating can be cleaned simply with window cleaner or water. Oils, alcohol, or acids may damage the coating.
