I can’t get over how beautiful the artwork of the album cover is. It truly embodies the symbolism of the album, especially poignant in the closure of the album song Jesse. It uses the allegory of the alien, which from the outside depicts a rather “flawed” (‘messy’), “ugly” and ‘bad’ entity. Nevertheless, when you begin to view the world from the perspective of the alien, you begin to realize that it’s not a monster but rather just a misunderstood and misjudged soul. We humans inherently view aliens as an innate evil, despite never having come close enough to one ‘to get to know’ anything about it. Perhaps Dijon may be depicting himself/the protagonist of the song as the alien, as Jesse, a unrequited soul drifting alone in space, ‘hoping’ that one day someone will love him/her passionately and without prejudice, despite the “many” flaws. On the other hand, ironically a different interpretation of the image of the engagement ring being put on the aliens finger may be to illustrate, how you never really will know everything about your partner. It implies that despite thinking we know a person so well, the individual could be ‘bad’, ‘break promises’ and ‘turn their back’ on you, but that’s ‘alright’, because love isn’t built on certainty, it’s built on trust and commitment. I mean it seems the protagonist/Dijon doesn’t even know if they can trust themselves yet. Nonetheless they still hope to find someone willing to put their trust and love in the protagonist/Dijon, to help the protagonist mend a wound/trauma they seem to can’t let go of, even if it’s not tangibly visible to the partner. This is obviously just my interpretation. What an amazing album.

When it comes to the depiction behind this song, it seems as if Jesse is singing about himself from third person. Jesse seems to be reflecting upon the darker facets of his character, his flaws, his struggles and his demons. Despite being frustrated (dammit) with this part of himself, he constantly forgives himself (its alright) for he knowns that many demons plague his mind (a lot on his mind). "Jesses a mess again - so I lie awake with him", this part of the song is sobeautiful. For me it paints this imagery of two dichotomous Jesses, one laying in bed struggling to fall asleep as his demons keep whispering to him and the other unattached Jesse, who is reflecting, pitying and comforting his damaged self.
