What did UNTAET do for East Timor? One UN moron said in 2000 "this is going to be a very poor country for a very long time", which is why it did nothing to rebuild the infrastructure. And yet people still wonder why things are a mess?? What about Portuguese? Xanana was talking in Tetum, which most people speak, not Portuguese, which most people don't.

The level of incompetence of the timorese government is unbelivable, they have billions in the bank and they can't even get the basics right, what experience do they need to order a new generator for Dili? I worked in Etimor with UNTAET and I can't believe that after all the money spent on training and building this country problems remain the same. I met the dude from Victoria back then but what timor needs is competent local leaders not some useless imports, and what with Portuguese??

there is still a lot of work to be done, they tried to learn about african politics to avoid the corruption path. being a new country brings a lots of challenges and its proving to be a long road.

Oh, and it's pronounced PI-res, not Pe-REZ. Even Timorese who don't speak Portuguese know how to pronounce Portuguese names!
