Kristen, its great that a young musician like yourself is interested ragtime, a wonderful music genre that is much neglected now. Growing up in the 40's and 50'd I learned the style by hearing the old timers playing in live, just the way it was in the turn of the last century. I suggest you get hold of a DVD of the movie "Ragtime" as the performances in the film are outstanding and very accurate. I think you will be surprised at how refined and lyrical the style actually was. And the tempos were much slower. I had the good fortune of playing in an authentic style ragtime band for several years during my career as a professional musician.
@jameskleinecke65963 жыл бұрын
Kristen, I'm amazed every time I hear you play. I love how you articulate the notes, that makes a huge difference in giving the music some clear definition. And, when it comes to playing staccato in the bass, and legato in the right hand, you are the best that I've heard. Having that perfect technique really brings out the syncopation between the two parts. Well done!
@johnlneely54482 жыл бұрын
STACCATO = each note being played quickly, and with little or no sustain (cut short, crispy; detached) LEGATO = played smoothly and connected (the melody flows together from note to note without any intervening silence)

Kristen: That is a great talent to be able to put the cords with the melody like you do. I know how to play a melody, and add the correct cord to it also, so I started playing the accordion after I got out of college. Playing a note, cord, repeatedly is easy once you get the hang of it on an accordion. I don’t know if you know how the buttons on an accordion are lay’d out, but look it up on line, and you will see how it can be easy and fun if you play by ear. Being able to take the accordion wherever you want to play is fun! I grew up in the south, so not many people have seen an accordion! I play more on my accordion now than I do on the piano, and I’ve played the piano since I was 5 yrs old. I play inside, outside, and I even joined a German Band. It’s lot’s of fun. Whatever music you make and with what instrument you use, enjoy!! You’re an excellent player!
