Dillon Powder Measure Accuracy Test

Honestly, I have a Dillon myself and seldomly use their powder measure unless using ball powder which it works well on. Same as what your test was using. Having said that I always use a spring because it will positively return correctly. Also, the differences you showed in your test would make zero difference in group size on a target. So long as the powder is above the baffle it makes no difference what the level is. You could take it to the top of the measure, and it would have zero difference. Your video and your comments would make a novice reloader think it might be better not to use the spring. Quite the contrary. The spring is in the design to make sure that there is a positive return. If for any reason things were just sticking a little bit, it may not completely return. Thanks for the video always interesting to see what people come up with even when it doesn't make any sense to me.

That’s interesting. We’ve loaded thousands of rounds without the spring and never had a problem. The return rod arm also brings the slider to back to position. Thanks for watching!

The biggest thing is to allow the powder to flow. 0.22 isn't all that big of hole to put the powder through.

It’s been my experience that stick powders of any sorts do not go well with powder measures, unless you’re content with over .5 grain variances in your powder charges.

Wow....I love Dillon. I also have the 550c press here, but there's one thing about Dillon stuff/the press etc. is it's a bit depressing. I just wish I would have bought Dillon to begin with way sooner. This is because while they're expensive, I still would have saved a ton of $$$ for reloading gear by negating/eliminating things I didn't need to buy. For example, with this thing being so accurate, why would I want/need an electronic powder dispenser from RCBS? I have the RCBS link powder thrower, but why do I need that if it's less accurate than this, and this is way faster? Sincerely,

Yeah! Dillon makes great stuff, however depending on the powder you were using, I don’t think the Dillon would be as accurate as your electronic dispenser that weighs every charge, especially if you were using stick powders.

Yeah try running stick (extruded powder) through there. It would sound like you were eating crunch and munch lol

I just recently made the switch to Dillon and the powder measure is a bit disappointing to be honest. My old RCBS rotary units are more consistent. I also noticed that one of my Dillon units is more consistent than the other.
