I have been fishing those bridges for 40 years. Here is some advise for your next trip. #1 Get a hand truck that folds out to 4 wheels #2 Get a portable round boat livewell 10 0r 15 gallon #3 Go to Walmart and get a livewell pump and a deep cycle battery to run it. #4 Next time you go down there Get live shrimp in the livewell 4 or 5 dozen. hook them through the horn behind the eyes with a 1/0 hook use a 1/4 oz to 1/2 oz egg weight above a swivel and a floracarbon leader. #5 Start at the beginning of the bridge and drop a shrimp in front of the piling make sure the current is at your back Do not cast out there is no fish out there you want they are all under the bridge around the pilings and no need for a chum bag it does no good in that current. I promise you will Slay Snapper Grouper might even get a Snook or a tarpon and fish for pin fish and other bait fish for cut bait frozen bait does nothing. walk the bridge fish every piling. When the current changes switch sides best current is when it is going to the car bridge because you can drift shrimp with light weight to those pilings also I have pulled out MONSTER MANGROVE SNAPPER from under those bridges. At night is best for me I feel. Side note if you love this style of fishing get a couple of Shimano 4500 bait runner spinning reels on some stout rods as those reels allow you to set to free spool clicker so you dont have to tie your rods to the bridge. And never lean the flat part of the rods aginst the bridge as you will I promise ruin the rods. Tight Lines Boys!!!

Glad you show both good and bad days. So that bridge, I've fished 100's of times and honestly the best spot is right near the parking lot where the channel is a bit deeper. Have filled my cooler there with 14" mangroves many times using jigheads, shrimp and letting it drift under the tunnel near high tide. However, small fish can be a problem and eat anything you put in the water, we had that today at that exact bridge. Long Key, channel 2 and Channel 5 seem about the best overall.

That bridge is very interesting. It was originally a railroad track which was really badly damaged by a hurricane in somewhere near 1925, so when they rebuilt it, they made it into a road for cars. If you look closely at the abandoned section, you'll see the guard rails on the sides of the road are actually made from the repurposed rails of the railroad track that was removed.

@@dillonfishing Even more interesting is there are still certain sections (Bahia Honda Bridge) which still have the railroad track in place, and they built the road to go way up along the curved top of the bridge truss, with the abandoned railroad track below it. It looks really jenky and bizarre. Pic here: www.abandonedfl.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/DSC_9167.jpg

A lot of the snapper are going to hang up under the bridge and shortening up your leader a little bit with prevent tangle in the current and wind just a little handy info 👍🏽

Don't cast off the very end into the bridge cut as that is the nearest passage for miles that a boat with a hardtop can pass through the bridges. You have the entire bridge to fish off of. There is no need to walk all the way to the very end and block boat passage.

I know there's limitations for size and species, but I'm surprised you didn't use one of those little uns for a live bait. Some times it makes all the difference. Maybe even drift it under a balloon out away from the structure.

@@ryanmichaels9200 I fished the bridges in The Keys for years and 1 nice bite is nothing to get overly excited about. I’ve caught everything from keeper Snappers to #5, Groupers to #12 to #20 Permit, Barracuda to 5 feet, numerous Tarpon, massive sharks and a host of other species. Cut bait/shrimp will catch you all the small fish you want with the occasional nicer fish but if you truly want to catch a nice fish, live bait is the ticket (pilchards, ballyhoo, blue runner, pinfish, blue crab, mullet)

@@Skolmann you are dead-on correct sir! I’m gonna be in Islamorada next week for a couple weeks off with the wife, and we both love snapper fishing. The bridges/piers with convenient parking make it real easy to access great fishing easily. Fresh fish every night, if wanted! Live bait is the way to go for really nice fish. I use a long floro topshot with braid. That’s a huge help!

@@Skolmann not to disagree because live bait is awesome, but if DUDE knew how to cut a ballyhoo, the Muttons and big Mangos love it if you cut off the head and tail only, and hook the plug in the tail end, streamlining things. Also, a long slender plug of Grunt. Still though, a nice lively bait is numero uno!
