Worlds of Music The Dilruba is basically a Bowed Sitar
@RockStarOscarStern6342 жыл бұрын
1:11 Yes it's the same tuning as a Sitar which is why it's often referred to as a Bowed Sitar.
@RockStarOscarStern6342 жыл бұрын
It's tuned like the Sitar but you can play it with a Bow. The bridge has a Radius to it so each of the main strings can be played individually with the bow.

You might also notice that 5 (sometimes 7) of the Sympathetic Strings go all the way up to the headstock and they pass over a Jawari bridge

I know that this is very ethnocentric of me, but I've been playing guitar for 40 years, so see things through the prism of western music. Apologies. As I see it, this is tuned to DADGAD tuning, one semitone lower. The sympathetic strings spell out 2 different scales. Cool instrument

Hi getting a Dilruba soon its going too be made custom because I will bow with my left hand so tuning pegs will be on the other side I know its crazy. Interested in the pick up system also can you explain a little more on that and whats the price for a setup like that.When tuning it do you use a clip on style or one that sits on a table.What other style of pick ups can be adapted for the dilruba very nice thank you.

I love the sound of yours. I am a newbie. Could you elaborate on the tuning of the sympathetic strings. I cant seem to get that haunting resonance
@worldsofmusic97308 жыл бұрын
+Empty space tuning your sympathetic strings to get that sustaining, haunting quality is a patient art. I had a great deal of musical training in Western Classical music and Jazz that provided me with great ear training and techniques to self-learn that were very helpful to my time with sitars and dilruba. Each instrument is a little different and if not set up properly can't resonate well. And so, take one note at a time at first to hear closer unison sounds. Then try to compare the open fourths and fifths, try getting those strings to be as in tune with one another as possible. They will supply sympathetic energy to each other when they are in the closest tuning. Best of luck and patience to you.

+Gursharan Singh Dilruba Hello! I bought this instrument from a shop I used to manage. It came to the USA via Mid-east Mfrg., who import a great deal of Indian instruments, and many others. There was no personal maker marks or symbols on it, but it played very well for me for more than 10 years. On the bottom, you might be referring to the pickup system I installed. It is made by K & K here in the USA.
