Especially the "Du kannst auf diese Weise einen billigen Lacher bekommen" sounded very convincing, so I think he knows himself some German. But John's "Vor fünfundzwanzig Jahren ..." is also genuine German. The host however apparently doesn't know any German but just read his line. Oh, and for those not speaking German, it has nothing to do at all with the subtitles. Except again for the host's question which is accurately translated.

@stakleni00 : In 2004, BBC released a pack of four DVDs (in a luxurious hard case) under the general title, " The Best Of Monty Python's Flying Circus And Live At Aspen " (BBCDVD1377). The three of them contain extensive parts from almost all the episodes of the legendary series ( called " Volume 1, 2 & 3 " ). The fourth DVD contains " Live At Aspen ". It is not sold separately. You will have to buy the whole pack ( which I strongly recommend if you happen to by a Python fan ).

No "randomloves74", nothing is cut from the actual interview. The only cuts made are those of the Pythons sketches played during the interview. Unfortunately, the sketches were mixed by the "dissolve" transition technique which forced me to sacrifice 1 or 2 seconds (max), before and after every sketch clip. Perhaps Terry Gilliam's t comment started right after the end of a sketch clip (I don't remember right now).

@stakleni00 You can also get it in a set entitiled Monty Python Live, that consists of two DVDs. 1 has Live At Aspen and one of the German epsiodes they made in the 70s. 2 has Live at the Hollywood Bowl, and Parrot Sketch Not Included: 20 Years of Monty Python.

When I was young I indeed didn't have a sense of humour, cause in Germany comedy was and is either slaptsick Benny Hill style (but worse) or political satire (which we must be the world leader in, honestly). Then they started to show the Flying Circus series on one of the channels associated to one of the main public broadcast companies (ARD I think). And immediately I was hooked. Many hilarious series and stand-up comedians (like the fantastic Eddie Izzard briefly seen in part 1 of this series or Ricky Gervais) later I am still a proud aficionado of British humour. And I can say that it has changed my life in an extraordinary fashion. I shall indeed die happily laughing all the way.
