Daidau is a beautiful folk song, very touching. I love every time Dimash plays dombra and dresses the traditional clothing. He looks very proud of his country and his culture. I am glad you value his performance and his enormous talent.,

The instrument is a dombra..traditional Kazakh instrument. He plays several other instruments but will not spoil the surprises ahead. Also Hayden, one of the very best ways to find out about his song choices, plus get English translations, is to go to GLORIA WU's YT channel. She has done a spectacular job doing background videos and translation vids. This song came during a week when the contestants were to pick a song that reflected something about their country's culture. Dimash is wearing a traditional costume made by the design students at the university he attended. Some of the musicians were his college instructors!

English translation by Dulat Imanaliyev..... The lyrics of this song is written by Kazakh poet, writer, and enlightener Magzhan Zhumabayev, who was falsely accused and exiled to the Gulag in Siberia for 10 years because of his political views. Believing the rumors, he thought that his wife had left him, and he wrote this song. However, this was all a lie, and they were reunited again in 1935, when he was released. But, their happiness did not last long. He was repressed again and executed in 1938 as an enemy of the people by the Soviet regime. This is a tragic story, which describes the tragic fate of a whole nation ...

True prodigy, this is the first time he performed in his native language and traditonal Kazakh clothing on the show so it was a big deal for him showing it to the world. lol i totally get what you mean about his mannerisms and stagepresence. Its really small details you think no one else may notice but we do. He knows exactly how important mic positioning is to how loud or faint you want to make a note sound.

It is a touching story about a Kazakh poet who was imprisoned during the Stalin rule over the Soviet Union (which included Kazakhstan). The poet was told a false story that his wife had left him, and the song was based on his letters to his wife. He was released and spent some months with his beloved wife before he was re-arrested and executed.
