He's done it again! I'm a big fan of the Lara Fabian performance of "Adagio" so I was really excited to check this out. Unsurprisingly, he did not disappoint!

He actually plays 7 instruments. He won his first award for playing piano when he was 6!! This show is actually a competition show in China called I Am A Singer & this season was in 2017 but it happens every year. The people backstage are indeed the other competitors but this competition is for Professionals & they invited Dimash as an unknown Wildcard. He was also the youngest there. The 500 member audience voted on the acts each week for 14 weeks (Episodes). It was the first time they invited a foreigner to join and they had the rules set up so that a FOREIGNER COULDN"T win 1st so they were only able to give him 2nd place. The following year they changed that rule and Jessie J competed and won. 🎶👱‍♀️👗👠👠💓

@@osamabinladen824 They didn't set anything up. They just had their options limited because that year the rules stated that a NON Asian couldn't be awarded the grand prize so they gave him second place. The next year they changed that rule so Jessie J was the winner as a Non Asian..

Many of those back room shots were his fellow competitors... but, in The Singer, the "competition" is a lot more good natured and supportive. A number of those people became crucial mentors to Dimash through his time in China.

The Chinese TV program 'I Am a Singer' is different in several ways from the talent shows we see televised in the West. It is indeed a competition - but it's not a competition featuring beginners. The contestants are pros. Most are Chinese, of course, but they do invite a 'guest' to participate. In 2017, that guest was the Kazakhstani singer Dimash. He was relatively unknown in China when he appeared on the show, but better known in Kazakhstan, Russia and some of the other former Soviet Republics. But he was already a pro in 2017. Another difference of this show is that the contestants return week after week to present different material. I'm vague as to exactly how songs are chosen. I'm sure some are contestant-selected, not sure if all of them are. Each show features one song from each contestant, and each show has a 'winner' - the singer who most impressed the judges for that show. All contestants come back to compete again in the next show. Only when the season has run its course is a season winner announced. Another difference is that the show's musicians, both instrumentalists and backup vocalists, are extraordinary. Simply extraordinary. You could delete the star singers and still love the show. Dimash did not win the season. A Chinese contestant did. Dimash fans will forgive this obvious mistake, because the show spared no expense to provide an excellent venue for each singer, and because they have made their content available on the internet. Dimash went viral because of this show; it catapulted him onto the world stage. The Chinese 3017 winner is still relatively unknown outside of China. Dimash got what he most needed from 'Singer.' The judges do not babble endlessly on this show, grabbing the spotlight and eating up air time that could be devoted to high musical art. Western shows have not learned this trick. Prior to his appearance on 'Singer,' Dimash had competed in other regional competitions, sometimes winning, sometimes not. Now he has no need to compete. He is a phenomenon with millions of eager fans. He can sell out any venue in the world and has proven it many times over. Will it surprise you to learn that Dimash is a long-time fan of Lara Fabian? He has admired her since childhood. They have a professional relationship now - they have performed together, Dimash has covered some of Lara's songs, and Lara has supplied lyrics for one of Dimash's songs. Dimash is a huge fan of Lara Fabian since he's childhood... Lara saw this performance and responded very proud of him... Later on, with the maestro and composer Igor Krutoy, "Mademoisele Hyde" , originally sung by Lara, the lyrics were adapted for Dimash performances... And finally Dimash's fan dream came true two years later, when he performed at Igor Krutoy's Ice Show, with Lara Fabian in "Ti amo cosi"...

It's usual Dimash perform in he's knees or siting position... that's he's way... obviously for technical reasons too, to transfer he's gravitational position, to support he's respiratory control, diaphragm and internal organs to all those massive athletic vocals... Professional singers, vocal coaches and singer teachers noticed that world wide, and "use" Dimash examples to explain to their pupils why, how, and what to do because he's hard trained for that since he's childhood... a very good live example to show of. And he's a performer from tip to toe.. a beast on stage. . in he's rehearsals before the show, we don't see him doing that... he's very relaxed, cool and fun... but on stage, he transforms himself, like he was in a transe, somewhere "into" the song lyrics... those gestures he doesn't rehearsal... he just does it during he's emotional delivery.... And he always after seeing and criticize the recording every time he sings... he forces himself to improve, to change, the sing, perform or gestures if it's unnecessary... "next adagio" ( lots of adagios) you won't see him doing that... but he sings it even better....he's a true perfectionist in he's formation, knowledge, way and demanding, all for the public... it must be perfect, so he works it... that's it.

Lara Fabian saw this Performance by DIMASH and was amazed, but wanted to do a duet with him and for his 25th birthday she recorded a video of her with small one candle birthday cake and sang Happy birthday to DIMASH. If you watch "Ti amo Cosi" at ice arena in Moscow, you will see DIMASH and LARA sing together and there you can feel the respect and admiration they have for each other, it is electric, and also a beautiful performance, one of my favs.

He sings with Lara Fabian and a beautiful opera singer Aida, a must see performance. Both he and Lara work with Igor Krutoy. The competitors are all professional singers and he is the youngest in the competition. They seemed to be very supportive of Dimash. I agree with another comment, please breathe, I also hold my breath when he sings, I am not sure if it’s his impact or the fact that I used to sing, but it can be exhausting.

I believe the other performers are already established artists and are invited to this competition. They think it is an honour and are given wonderful backing singers and musicians. They all genuinely enjoy each other’s performances therefore. The audience of 500 are the ones who vote. There aren’t judges as such. Dimash was an unknown from another country. But his first appearance singing S O S was what brought him massive exposure over the world.

I Am Singer is a 14 episode contest, invitation only, typically for mid-career professionals. Dimash's youth (22) made him an exception. Audience votes for the winners every week. Organizers expected him to wash out after the first 2. Instead, he won 1st place for SOS and Opera 2 (the first 2 episodes) again later for Adagio - placing 2nd over all.

​@Sofiaguy Space That doesn't track with other info I've seen. #1, he did perform after Adagio, the performances are out there to be seen. He is listed as having won second place/runner up. Terry Lam won first, Lion won 3rd. He DID, however, withdraw mid-contest from World's Best. The story from Dimash's camp was that he asked in advance if he would be asked to compete against children, which is considered disgraceful in his culture. They said no. He ended up in competition against children, and withdrew. The shows producers said that Dimash's camp never asked this question and they never told him it wouldn't happen. They defended the right of children to compete against adults.

Pentatonix's fame grew from their own You Tube channel. It is true that they won the talent show "The Sing Off". But the real fame came much later. Dimash was "Discovered" on "I Am Singer" show from China. Although he was known to his home audience in Kazakhstan. But "we" can't be tuned into everything at all times. You Tube is a great "equalizer" in that regard though.

This is from "I AM SINGER" a big time competition in China. 2017. He was 22 yrs old. He couldn't speak English at the time but has since learned. All of the contestants are professionals.

The thing about The Singer show that is different from other competitions is that the competitors are well known professional singers in the region. As someone commented below Dimash was an unknown by his fellow competitors and audience at the time. The competitors are a part of the panel of judges, and they also have to do their own song arrangements for each song and only a week to prepare. The 500-member audience too are all musically inclined in some way, i.e. singers, musicians, composers, producers, vocal coaches, or combination of the same. So the competitors are judged by their peers on musicality, vocal agility, performance, storytelling, everything you want to see from an artist if you were attending their concert. The music is supremely high class and the whole show of excellent quality.

He play like 10 instruments (dont know if master all) and he can sing in 8 languages (dont know if he can speak all) but i think thats not bad... Ive never being fan of nothing, but this guy.... was the only thing in common with my mother and thats why i have good relationship with my family, believe me or not. This awesome guy's songs bring feelings in all kinds of people around the world without any relationship that cause a feeling of unity just by admiring this singer. It's strange but I've found that whoever likes it, is "in another way" of feeling the music. Hope you enjoyed it like me, cheers from Spain.
