Dimash didn't simply go to China, nor did he win. Dimash was invited to participate in a singing competition in China as the first foreigner and the youngest competitor in the show's history. He was 22 and the others were 12-39 years his senior. The winner was a beloved and respected 54-year-old female singer named Yil Liliang ( Sandy Lin). Two other female singers were better than her. Dimash is very respectful of everyone, humble and dedicated to his country, family, his "Dears" and completely dedicated to his music. He still does vocal training for 3-5 hours every day.

The band named A'Studio that accompanies Dimash, is the same one that composed the song minus the lead singer named Batyrkhan Shukenov, who died of a heart attack in 2015. The song was originally performed in 1998 and the lyrics are by the poet Ilia Reznik together with Baigaly Serkebayev, (the keyboardist with long hair, which we see in the video accompanying Dimash.) The tones in the middle are oriental Arab technique (or traditional qazaq singing, called Joqtaw). The run in the end was 1 breath for 20 seconds. The man in the white shirt you see doing the standing ovation at the end is Igor Krutoy. This was the first time he heard Dimash, and was what prompted him to come out of retirement to work with him.

Thank you for your great reaction. He is simply incredible. Not just with his singing, but also as a person. He is such a friendly, kind and humble person and never acts like a star. These middle easter sound (melisma) he does in one or another song. It’s really awesome. The thing with the flowers has something to do with respect for the artist. It's a cultural thing. The audience listens to a performance without yelling or screaming that the artist can no longer be heard. No sound may be missing. In return, they then shower Dimash with flowers and gifts. That's the norm there. He then always donates the flowers to hospitals, retirement homes or similar institutions. Russian audiences are more reserved, but that doesn't mean they don't love Dimash. They just don't show it that way. Like I said, it's a cultural thing. 23 seconds in one breath with riffs and runs. It’s unbelievable. By the way he didn‘t win The Singer competition. He became second in The Singer competition in China 2017, because of not being a Chinese. The following year in 2018, they changed the rules and Jessie J. won. He sang this song on the New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2018. This is an international contest for young performers founded by Igor Krutoy in 2002. Dimash sang here as a guest. This song was in Russian, a language he speaks fluently. The gentleman at the end you see standing and clapping is the famous Russian/Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter Igor Krutoy. He has come out of retirement to work with Dimash. True masterpieces were created. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range, such as Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You’ll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It’s more like a father/son relationship. I LOVE that you watched this video til the end!!! So many reactors just stop it before he speaks, losing a glimpse into the real Dimash. The group (A-Studio) playing with him wrote/composed the original song. Their lead singer (who was from Kazakhstan) died suddenly & that interlude with the Monteverdi trill (really fast vibrato) was paying homage to the original singer. I don’t think they played together much before this, so I’m sure they weren’t extremely familiar with him - you can see it on the bass guitarist’s face near the end 😂 I’m sure everyone is blowing up your channel with recommendations but the bottom line - ANYTHING you choose is good - because he’s that good. He’s a master of blending styles/genres. Couple suggestions to showcase his versatility: 1) Be With Me MV - MJ vibe with tons of surprises 2) Omir - written for his gratitude for his fans. “Mood” music video released last year & new one just last week (live with his brother 3) Know - New Wave version & vocalise version 4) Daididau - Arnau version - amazing demonstration of Kazakh folk song with traditional instruments 5) El amor en ti - first time singing in Spanish premiered at his Almaty concert & heard he had 20 days from when he was given the lyrics to compose & translate that into the performance - crazy!!!
