He sang the song not only for his mother, but also for his grandmother, who was sitting in the audience with his grandfather. You must know, in Kazakhstan there is a tradition that the first-born son is raised by grandparents. Kazakh traditions are very important to Dimashs' family. For a long time he didn't know that those he had called Mama and Papa weren't his parents at all, but his grandparents. And it was his grandmother who took him to music school every day. He often proudly tells this in many interviews. Unfortunately, his grandfather passed away suddenly in June, a few days before his last concert in Malaysia. He considered canceling the concert, but his grandfather always said that a given word must be kept. I have read from some Dears who attended the concert in Malaysia that this concert was the most emotional one they have experienced so far. There is another beautiful song you should react to. He sang a Ukrainian folk song during his concert in Kiev, Ukraine 2020. I love how the audience sings along to this beautiful song. He just learned the lyrics for it the day before. Ukrainian is also a beautiful language. He dedicated the song not only to his Ukrainian Dears but also to his mother in the audience. It's always very moving to see his mother crying here. When Dimash starts singing, it's always a pleasure. - At 11: 17 in your video you see his grandparents. He has a deep relationship with them - especially with the grandmother - similar to that of parents. The grandfather died recently. His parents were well-known singers in Kazakstan.

Dimash has said in interview that he couldn’t bear to embarrass or disappoint his family. You should see Dimash sing Marigolds at the Kiev concert. He learnt the Ukrainian song just before the concert and surprised everyone. It is a very special song in Ukraine and is about planting marigolds with mothers. It was Mother’s Day and his mother is in the audience. She has to wipe away her tears. It is beautifully tender.

When Dimash knelt,with his hand stretched out, he was singing to his 1st mum n dad ( kazak tradition being that the 1st born child is brought up by what we wud call - grandparents, but Dimash refers to them as mum n dad, his "dad" died last month. So Dimash is honouring them too) Yes whole family r extremely musical. Mansur, the youngset sibling, about 16yrs I think, is already writing, composing. He wrote the song "Together," he is more interested in playing various instruments, he and Dimash performed the song in one of the concerts. Roshan is also v musical, and has performed on stage, but her interest is?in becoming a Doctor, though she aslo works with Dimash behind the scenes in concerts. What a family!!!!

Though an Islamic predominate country, Kazaks highly honor their women and children. They are encouraged to go out and be what they want to be. Raushan, younger sister of Dimash, is studying to be a Medical Doctor, his mother along with his father were singers and entertainers, His Mama/Grandmother who raised him was a great educator in Kazakhstan. They do not hold their women back at all.

Dimash, who calls his grandparents mama and papa, believed his biological parents were his brother and sister-in-law until he was 10-years-old. Per tradition, the extended family lives together in a communal home. Dimash's papa (also his biological father's papa) passed away only last month.

The two women in Muslim head coverings and the man in the middle are 3 of his grandparents. The darker of the two women and her husband are Kanat's parents. Kanat being the father of Dimash. As per Kazak tradition, Dimash was given to them as a newborn to raise for the first ten years of his life. At 10, the entire family moved in together. Dimash and his siblings were raised and nestled with a great, loving, honorable family, surrounded by great wisdom. they were also raised with strict, high moral values. Values I would like to see return to America. Sadly, his Papa/Grandfather passed away about 3 weeks ago and this is a huge gap left for Dimash, but a few days later, he decided to do a planned a concert in Maylasia. Dimash completed his Doctoral studies and Dissertation this spring and has been living in L.A. off and on attending the L.A. campus of the New York School of Fine Arts majoring in Film Directing.
