I was cruising KZbin recently and discovered a Russian talent show contestant that did just that, with one of the best, most unique voices I've heard in many years. "Opera 2" is not an opera song but a novelty song by Vitas from Russia (who may have lip synched it on occasion). A true opera don is "Ogni Pietra" which is an incredible performance. He won this round ( Round 2) of the 2017 Singer professional competition.. As we all know, he finished second to Sandy Lam; but everyone knew that he should have won the competition. I would recommend "Autumn Strong", which is my favorite performance. You can see Gloria Wu's version which includes the background of the song and his performance.

This was Dimashs' second performance for this show, "The Singer" in China. No one other than the sponsors and producers of the show had even seen him. The other contestants were kept in the dark and only knew that a "Foreigner" was participating. The show was by invitation only and made up of Chinese singers who were already established in their careers. They called Dimash a "dark horse" and did not fully know his skills. He was to sing first because the order of the show was to be the least known had to go first. Yes, he was nervous to be in a foreign country, not speaking the language, and on his own. His first song was S.O.S.

This song was originally composed and written by Vitas but Dimash sang it just sang this song for this competition. However, when this competition was over Dimash decided not to sing this song for respect he has for Vitas.
