This was actually the first performance for the China competition's new season of The Singer 2017 [which was why the crowd was excited for it to start at the beginning] -- but what is often overlooked is that he was pretty much a complete unknown to that audience [he's from Kazakhstan and didn't speak any Chinese at that time], and he was the least expected or anticipated to do much since he was pretty much unknown to the audience [which is why he was placed to go first -- the most anticipated singers were set to perform last on that episode]. This was the first time the China audience and other performers in the back room on the show heard him sing. Between his first performance ["S.O.S." in French] and his 2nd performance [Vita's "Opera 2" in Russian], he quickly won their hearts completely. This is the first time that the Chinese audience or his competitors in the green room had heard him sing....Although he had already won many awards before this...he is 22 here...that was a year ago...he has done so much since then you can't list them all....He sings in about 8 different languages...so I suggest that you go to YT...Gloria Wu...who has translated most of his work...Oh Yes....Dimash fuses pop, rock, jazz, almost any genre with opera...it is known as neo-classical...or commonly as Popera.....You haven't seen any thing yet....First check out....YT..tencent video..Dimash/Earth Song/Victor....

When I listen to Dimash, besides the incredible ear candy of everything he does, is how he is a lot like a "Bull in a China Shop" w.r.t. performance. Over centuries there has been this carefully constructed china crystal which implies we are not to mix Opera and pop music in this or any way. Dimash does this so fluidly and impressively, he has now smashed that piece of china, How about the crystal canard that states men do not sing that high?..."SMASH". Vitas was more a novelty act, Dimash has legitimized the use of his god-given range and fearlessly used it to terrific effect. He is employing all of the talent, training, even tricks he can to drill a hole directly into your soul and skip all the bullsh?>T that hangs around vocal norms. And, he does this with such fore though and finesse. I have watched many reactions and it is great how the public is accepting what he is doing and praising it. There have been very few dunces who say "he sings like a girl" or "what is this...Opera?". No it's not Opera, boy, girl, singing high or low or anything else, it is a new artist paving the way, with absolutely no fear, for others in uncharted waters and smashing all that dusty old china all along the way!!

Great reaction !! When I first heard this, I don't know how many times I played it, I was stunned ! I'm a 62 year old and have had the privilege of hearing some great singers from all genres of music in my time, so when I first heard about this so-called Greatest Singer in the world I was skeptical. In fact I ignored it until I saw it again a couple of weeks later. Out of curiosity I clicked on it. The song was SOS. I have never been the same since and that was nearly a year ago !! All I could say was WOW !!! I haven't been able to listen to anything else since !! That has never happened to me before - ever !! Every song he does is a ‘WOW’ for a different reason🥰. My live favorite is SINFUL PASSION because of his middle-eastern ‘yodel’ thing and the 23-second wild run at the end.
