There is another version of this song from 2021 on DQ channel, it's mindblowing and worth a watch as altho' it's in a studio again, it has a smoke effect and he uses traditional yodel, it's awesome, I love this song ... story of young men who forced to join Tsar's army in WW1 and march hundreds of miles from their villages to fight in a useless war while leaving their ageing parents behind, so sad

It's in Kazakh, it's folk. This song is only 2 octaves, another proof that he's more than range. It's the story of a soldier forced to live his homeland. It's his mother tongue, he's sitting cross-legged and shoeless in his home studio, surrounded by traditional instrument. This performance is a cultural experience. I heard his older performance of this song first, didn't know the lyrics back then, but I could picture riders across the steppe. This is true art. It was done on his birthday, for the online Tokyo Jazz Festival, on their KZbin livestream which was flooded by dears who waited for him for over 2 hours as he was the last to perform. He also did SOS then, he sings it differently every single time.

Hi Johnny, the story and the background of this song: Samal Tau is a historical song. 1916... World War I...The Russian Tsar issues a decree on the draft of Kazakhs aged 19-39 years in the army. Samal Tau is the song of these recruits. The place where they came from was called "Samal Tau" in the North Kazakhstan region. The name of the author is not preserved in the memory of the people. The song contains the words: “We wander tired, very tired for 15 days, almost reached Omsk. Samal Tau, where I was born and raised, was left behind. Elderly parents stayed at home. How are they supposed to live without me? ". The song also has information about the age of the author. He is a little over two mushels old. He was born in the year of the cow, which means in 1888, so he is 28 years old. /Dears, there were discussions on the YT about exactly how many years 2 mushels mean. I translated it according to infos in the internet. The age is therefore to be understood as an approximate number/ (credits to Anna Ludwig - Dimash Multicultural Club) Here another performance of this song with subtitels in several languages: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnPPhJScn7CooM0 Ich persönlich bevorzuge die Version zu der du den React gemacht hast, sie hat irgendwie sowas intimes und zieht mich mehr in seinen Bann und in den Song.

Yes, yes, Karin I'll tell you honestly, Samaltau has become my favorite version of Tokyo Yazz+, while this version of Know song is my favorite, which you put up a link second, fantastic game with sounds, fantastic imrovisation, stage presence,, super, super, catharsis

Samaltau, mein erstaunliches Land, mein endloser See, Welche Tage erwarten mich als Soldat? (Google Übersetzer) Grüße aus Berlin

You hear the howling winds of the plains. The screeching of golden eagles, used by Kazakhs to hunt for small prey. Imagine young men conscripted, taken from their homeland, forced to fight in a war they do not understand or believe in. Imagine the terror, the depression, the fear of these young men who have only used bow and arrow or hunted with eagles. Imagine being forced by a Czar you know nothing of, to use guns against humans who are not natural enemies. The language is Kazakh. The emotions are gut-wrenching.

Thanks for your reaction - you are completely right. This is also one of my absolute favorite songs of Dimash! The tragic and pain in this song with its oriental style is so fitting and perfect for Dimash. The music is haunting, immediately pictures of lonely mountains, deserts, dust, thirst, marching soldiers in rags .... appear before my eyes. And you feel the longing, sadness, melancholia... It is so intense, and Dimash is so connected and full power within this Kazach tragedy - just gorgeous!!

Mountain breeze Mountain breeze, my amazing country, my endless lake, What days await me as a soldier, You keep coming into my mind from time to time, My amazing homeland, where I was born and raised I wasn't riding, I was walking, Even slower than walking, Been strolling for 15 days In the direction of Omsk I'm at the age of two cycles, the year of the cow By the will of Fate, I went farther away Mountain breeze, my amazing country, you're left behind From the hollow field, we are the only ones I had parents, Of progressed age, Since this song was written, It's been 16 years. Mountain breeze, my amazing country, my endless lake, What days await me as a soldier
