I think he shows tremendous respect for Tangri in this performance. But then, that's just part of Dimash and who he is. What a fantastic duo! Thank you, Marc!

Tengri was singing in mandarin in the first verse while Dimash was singing in kazakh. Tengri then sang in Mongolian while Dimash sang in mandarin. Hope this helps you in explaining the difference placements in the consonants and vowels sounds. Always enjoy your videos. Looking forward to more. By the way, Dimash released a number of new videos lately on his official channel. Check them out if you could. You won’t regret it!

Indeed, this song shows 3 languages. A few hundred years ago, Kazakh and Mongolia had a terrible war history. Since then, the relationship between them has become complicated. Therefore, this song is not only artistic, but also has some extraordinary political and national cultural communication significance which really made me excited. Wow. Like you said history is around us hhhhh(Some interesting misunderstanding)

My Dear Dr Marc!.....THANKS for your reactions to Dimash!!!!......Swan Goose. This performance was in TheSinger 2018. Dimash was invited for to sing with Mr. Tengri's (60). His voice is a diphonic voice (both vocal cords at the same time) as the Mongols sang, Mongolian throats singer. Mr Tengri voice is powerful and beauty. The musical instruments are ancestral and beautiful. At first Tengri was singing in mandarin and Dimash in Kazakh. Tengri then sang in Mongolian while Dimash sang in mandarin. The harmony of the voices is amazing, beautiful and difference placement of consonants and vowels sounds. Opositen voices but beautiful too! ....greetings from a Mexican Dear!.....❤️🇲🇽❤️🇰🇿❤️

This is a great reaction! I loved how you break down not only the singing, but what's happening with the outfits, background, music, etc. Very cool! This is a unique performance (as Tengri is unique, so the mix with Dimash was really awesome). I'm glad you reacted to it! I've asked once, but... React Request: "Olympico" by Dimash @ New Wave 2019 Sochi (official channel) Why: I know you reacted once (Minsk) but the one at Sochi has a full stage setup (themed set, costumes, live singers/orchestra, moving background images, Igor on the piano, and a close up of Dimash--you can see not only his face (how he's singing) but also how he acts/looks on stage). Please react to it! So much new stuff to talk about (in my opinion). I liked how you broke down this video, so I was hoping you could do the same for "Olympico"! ~ :D React Request: "Passione" by Dimash @ New Wave 2019 Sochi (official channel)

Hi Dr Marc, Great reaction again and I love the part you said that modern en folk music is combined well together. That’s what I love too and 2 heavenly voices its epic. I don’t know much about the Chinese music but Tengri is Mongolian and first they sang both in their own language (Chinese Manadrin and Kazachs) and at the end Dimash sang it in Mandarin too. I loved the musicians too who contributed a lot, special Mongolian throat singing and different instrument just amaziing. Pls check Heaven of Tengri and another Mongolian singer from the super vocal boys Ayanga (Grassland my homeland) and of course lots of Dimash check the New Wave and especialy the new song Passione but there’s more from Ognie Pietra to Know or Mademoiselle Hyde and love is like dream👍👏thx

Hello Dr. Marc. I have a suggestion for you. Please make the analysis about the different performances of Dimash's Olympico between the Arnau version (not a fancam and not from a Worldskills!) and the New Wave in Sochi. It is interesting, because you have two extremes of contrast there (stage design and colours). So it has completely different characters and gives another feeling of the song! It is the one, the same song, but the first version has something "diabolic" and the second something "angelic" in it for me!! Also I wish you make the analysis about the theatralical part of the new song Passione of Dimash.

You should react to Tengri - Heaven. It's a song he composed and it talks about his homeland. The deep emotion and sadness reflects his "heaven" or his home, Mongolian grassland, is no longer the same as it used to be and sadly the loss of his daughter which passed away at age 6. The intro is mongolian throat singing, chinese call it Humai. It's an emotional song, you should see the one with english sub.

Hi Dr. Marc I'm Malaysian Chinese. Now the throat singing part was by Tengri. Btw do you know he was a rock band singer when he was young? You can see his performances in Singer 2018 that was when he met Dimash who was there as Guest singer at the red carpet episode. You can see he appreciated Dimash immediately back then. Yes Tengri is a very experience singer esoecually breath control The music was actually played by Mongolian troupe using Mongoluan song. Tenggri sang the first part in Mandarin.. Dimash sang in Kazakh not Chinese 😂😂😂. Another thing you should know...Dimash mother is also a throat singer 😉 I won't be surprised if Dimash can sing that way too. There is some Chinese Opera influnce in the song...thats what you ment by the smile part ...the ending where they both drag the tune at the end like ahhhhh. The second part Dinash Sang in Mandarin and Tengri sanf in Mongolian. Now we Chinese classifly out the dialect because Chinese has many dialects 😅 and each county dialect differs a little even with the same spoken dialect. You can say one song with same Chinese characters can be sung in Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien etc with the same tune but sounds different 😂😂😂. Hope I did not confuse you. This is my TQ for helping us at Wiki. 😍

Hi Dr. Reynolds! Dimash sang the first verse in the beginning in Qazaq, the second verse (part) in Mongolian as it doesn't sound Chinese at all, I guess it was Mongolian language as Tengri of Mongolian ethnicity. As for Tengri, he might have sung his part in Chinese (I am not sure though). Thank you for your reaction and analyses! Greetings from Qazaqstan!

Tengri sings in Mongolian, Dimash sings in Kazakh, then both sing in Mandrin, the band is Mongolian, using traditional Mongolian instruments and throat singing. It is traditional Mongolian technique also used by traditional Kazakh singers. Both are the sons of the steppes where the stage suggest they are. To get to know Tengri as a singer, check out his performances on the singer 2018, especially Heaven.

The beginning of the song Tengri was singing more Chinese-style… but at the end (before the unison singing, Tengri was singing Mongolian instead. That’s why the sound changed. And not just the difference in language, there a difference in the enunciation and expression too… it takes on a rougher tone (Mandarin is way more elegant-sounding, words in mandarin don’t end in stops; no glottal stops in Mandarin, words are short, but word ends can be elongated indefinitely, that’s way it sounds so sing-songy. Mongolian is rougher, Rs are rolled, rasps are a dominant feature of the language.) Tengri incorporates a bit of “hollering/yodeling” when he is singing in Mongolian, which he doesn’t do at all when he is singing in Mandarin - traditional Mandarin songs don’t have a yodeling/hollering aspect, the placement tends to be very frontal and more nasally like in Peking opera-singing. While Mongolian has a more back placement generally. That’s why it sounds different. This is what partly makes Tengri a very unique singer even in China, he incorporates Chinese traditional style with Mongolian traditional style very very seamlessly. The difference may not be very obvious to non-Chinese/non-Mongolian singers, but it is definitely quite distinct to ears that know one culture or the other.

They have ancient and folk sounds that they can tap into. In addition, there is the Soviet legacy of methodical musical training even in the remote ex republics. Let me explain about this song. This is Mongolian folk song. Tengri represents Mongol minority of China and Dimash represents Kakzah/ Uiighur (Turko/Muslim) minority of China that constantly fighting to preserve their ethnic/ religious identity. This is politically correct song to show how all ethnic minorities live happily under the right policy of Communist Party of China. Tengri starts signing in Mongolian, then Dimash sings in Kazakh and then the last part they both sing in Mandarin (Chinese) that''s why the Chinese audience cheers them when they sing in Chinese at the last part. Overall, this performance is the showcase how all ethnic minorities live happily ever after under the rule of Communist Party of China. Sorry, I don't want to be political but this is what it is!
