Is that a 5-inch color TV perched high atop the decommissioned pool table? And I see the FS200 finally got its share of use again. Electronic dance music is intended to have a consistently high tempo to keep people on the dance floor and to enable DJs to blend together different tracks seamlessly, so that's why it all "sounds the same". I wasn't going to complain about the fonts until I noticed that in the closing credits, "rn" (as in "Carnel") is indistinguishable from an "m", at least when viewing at 360p.

9:14. Well....not in my case. I once picked up a Dell Dimension 3000 from my local neighborhood dumpster back somewhere in 2015, and it had a blank over the floppy drive opening. When I turned it on and booted into Windows XP, I saw a 3 and a half inch floppy drive listed in the devices with removable storage section in My Computer. Sure enough, when I took off the face-plate, I saw a floppy drive, hooked up and all. So out went the blank. Kind of a surprise.

I can see how that P4 suit got started. In fact, I found on KZbin a sketchy presentation by Intel back in 2001: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmnEn5Z-ra6nhcU I actually made a comment on that video about the benchmark featured there: "Intel wanted the Pentium III to die when the Pentium 4 came out. Unfortunately for the company, the Pentium III (in the Tualatin line) actually shown superior performance then the rushed Pentium 4 back in 2001. So they tried to convince us otherwise, like in this demo, where they did not match the clock speed on both CPUs, which is, in my personal opinion, a cardinal sin in this type of speed test. Intel stopped selling the P3 on 2003, when the P4 caught up."

I found an excellent use for pointless cd's, when i fitted a nice new wooden toilet seat i found that it didnt sit correctly on its rubber spacers, out came the sissors and a cd became two hand made packing washers, and the problem was fixed, a crap cd used to fix a crapper lol :-)) I threw a Emachine out the other day, similar ish intel board to the dimension, it had a pentium 4, 3000 processor, please dont swear at me :-(

The "i" in the model name Dimension 4600i indicated that the motherboard included integrated video along with the AGP expansion slot which the Dimension 4600 only came with. Windows 8 is Windows 7 with a Fisher Price user interface and a bunch of services shut off by default compared to Windows 7. Read Microsoft's "How to tell" page about determining if a copy of Windows is genuine ;) That wireless card worked surprisingly well, nothing special in terms of drivers, it just worked with what it got from Windows. The clock battery was fine when it left this house on April 30th 2014. WMP is indeed brain dead, its auto track info thing incorrectly IDs songs like you wouldn't believe. I suspect the floppy drive is "bad" in that it was filthy inside, nobody seems to have used it the past few years. Those speakers are still in NC.

You've gotta love when you have a larger library and it mixes up the art for all your tracks (even though the original art is actually still intact). That said, I still use WMP because it is effective and user friendly (and because I don't listen much on my computer anyway).

AOL still exists "stateside" as well. They still have a considerable number of dial-up customers, and there are even people who pay for an AOL subscription in addition to their broadband service. Sadly, it is very true. Some parts of the United States are very remote or so sparsely populated that no broadband provider will make the investment. Satellite is an option for some, but the latency is and the cost can be a real killer. (It's capable of high speed, but one can't change the laws of physics. Web traffic is very "bursty" and really gets hit hard by the round trip time.) Christmas, like everything else this year, was definitely different. I've had the Coronavirus already, and seem to have emerged unscathed. Now if only my sense of smell would come back. I hate the way the whole thing has been handled. Not that I could have done any better (nor am I saying such) only that I haven't enjoyed it. That of course, is hardly unique. I really despise the way certain things have become so politicized, too! The sooner things are back to some semblance of normal, the better. At least maybe it's starting to fall within sight...?

Talking about speakers, my dad custom ordered Dell 5.1 speakers because the ones that Dell were showing on the website when we were building his E521 were all 2.1. They're a very nice set (and even the back two speakers, which are combined into one unit, are wireless) and they sound very, very decent for the price (can't remember the exact value but they weren't much more if not the same as some of the speakers listed). The central speaker just hooks under the monitor, since he's also using the original monitor.

I am still, to this day, using a very nice set of beige Harman/Kardon HK195 speakers that came with a Dell Dimension XPS t700r way back in 1999. These speakers are some of the best-sounding computer speakers that I have ever had. I also like the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack on the front of the speakers so I can hook up a set of earbuds up on my desktop without having to stretch the cord all the way to my computer on the floor. Gone are the days when Dell gave a damn about the quality of their products. I still have these and all of the other peripherals that came with that computer, and they all still work quite well, including the computer itself which still chugs along like a champ with Debian and Windows 2000.

I have found that if you use a usb extension cradle with those usb wifi adapters you can raise the adapter to sit on top of the case and get the added advantage of wifi speeds upto 300Mbps (many older pcs have 100Mbps ethernet cards).
@robertbuilder536910 жыл бұрын
***** I agree. Not to mention the extra security risk associated with wifi. You are correct of course that the card in this video is not a usb device however my comment was in relation to usb wifi adapters in general and a reply to your comments on interference at around 22:00 in the video. Wifi does make sense of course in home networks, most of which are relatively quiet and cover short distances. Having bought 3 of these usb adapters for use around hard to reach areas of the house I can confirm that adapters that were connected into a cradle and placed on top of a tower had better reception and better speeds compared to ones that were connected straight into the back via usb (even though my router is 15m away and one level up). As you mentioned os support etc I can also confirm that when it comes to linux OS and wifi cards all bets are off. My advice there would be don't even bother unless you really know how to install wifi drivers in linux. But then again when it comes to linux maxxarcade is always complaining about how slow his WIRED gigabit network runs when he uses linux. Go figure.

Hey Bill- I recently acquired a Dell Latitude D620 in pretty good shape. It just needs a RAM bump and some general cleaning up. Was wondering if you would recommend Windows 7 or 8 as a replacement for XP (which it is currently running on). I have no experience with either. The system does meet and exceed the minimum requirements for both but the age of it does make me worry.

(In my opinion) I would keep it on Windows XP or maybe put Windows Vista on it. What are the specs of your laptop? if you have 1 or more GB of RAM you can run Windows Vista but please note, if it's an older system it is probably only compatible with Vista 32-Bit. Also in my opinion Windows 7 and 8 run horribly on an older system.

Jim Dayton Thanks Jim. It's a 1.83 ghz Intel core duo with 504 MB of RAM. It was pretty loaded with spyware and I managed to get it to run ok but there are still lingering issues like super slow (5 minutes) shut down, general sluggishness, and other odd behavior which made me think doing a reinstall might be the only solution. Still, with only 504 MB of RAM it performs decently but the fan does come on a lot.

jimmccarron Oh, i see. I would recommend upgrading the RAM to 1GB and i would definitely recommend reloading an OS. Amazon and eBay have copies of Windows XP and Vista. If it takes that long to shut down and acts weird I'm pretty sure the virus trashed the OS. Reinstall Windows.

***** It is not a "terrible idea". XP is fine. Just use reliable (Paid for) virus protection and don't go to or download anything from ads or unofficial sites. You can also get Ad Block Plus to filter out the scam ads. Also, if you are brave you can use that Windows Server registry hack to receive updates until 2019!

I have a D630 with Windows 10 2004 on an ssd and it's the best install of Windows 10 i've ever used. But results will vary. It has a C2D T8300

Your computer videos always make me look at my Optiplex GX150 like it's the best art we had in 2001. (Which it was since it had the 1ghz Pentium 3)

uxwbill: I have a question. I own a dell demension 4600 and the problem i'm having is that it has the organ flashing light but not an ordinary one. it has a top left corner 12volt power connector problem. If you unplug the power connector everything works. The hard drive turns on. Both disk drives turn on. Both the north and the south bridges tun on but heat up unnaturally. no bulging capacitors or any thing else. The problem is that when i plug the 12 volt power connector in it blinks orange. I think the problem is that there's a short circuit in the top left corner and i don't want to through it away I want to find out the problem. I was wondering if you knew how to fix it. please and thank you sincerely: Improvise101

Try another power supply, if you haven't already. Faulty power supplies were common in these. Unless you have significant experience in troubleshooting electronics on a component level, there won't be much you can do if another power supply fails to get it working. Even then it may not be possible or practical to repair the board. If you really want to keep the computer, try to find a used motherboard. The last I knew they were still pretty common and reasonably inexpensive.
