In this video we discuss dimensionless aerodynamic coefficients (sometimes referred to as coefficients of lift, drag, etc.). The overall goal is to characterize how the aerodynamic forces and moments are a function of various independent variables. We show how to use dimensionless aerodynamic coefficients to reduce the size/dimensionality of the problem.

AE512: Good refresher on some fundamentals I haven't touched in awhile! Also really enjoyed your "lift function" description, an interesting way to think about the use of the coefficients and how they play overall to simulating the aircraft.

[AE 512] The short intro videos to larger topics are nice. I think it helps set the stage and make the longer more detailed videos easier to follow.

AE 512: Meant to comment previously, but it's nice to see an explanation of why calculating the CL term makes sense versus lift itself

AE512: This video made me realize you can probably make any variable non-dimensional. It's meaningfulness is really determined by the reference values through which you strip the variable of its dimensions.

Hello Dear Professor Lum At the first of all, I would like to thank you for producing this content and then I will watch the video. I was really surprised when I checked my email just now and saw the notification of your new program. (Because I saw the suggestion under this video of your previous program "Wind Tunnel Testing: Introduction and Data Acquisition" Exactly this week, I started studying and researching the wind model and its effects on the quadrotor model, and part of the subject of my PhD project is on this topic. The purpose of this part of my project is to analyze the wind speed and wind direction with learning algorithms. Best Regards Naeem 🌺🌺🌺

AE512: I've always wondered, does the non-linearity associated with the lookup table aero-lookup approach a problem in feedback control system design? It's highly non-linear, right?

You're definitely onto something. We're actually going to be talking about linearizing a system about an operating point in a few weeks.
