And for a place that might not even exist. Time travel has been much on my mind for some time. I've lived in Italy for 20 years, but grew up in rural northeastern Connecticut, lived 20 years in NYC, then 12 in Vermont with the most glorious trails for me and my horse. My family owned a modest cottage on the water in Nantucket, long before the billionaires destroyed the island.The most beautiful place I've ever lived. The house is gone now, razed to the ground and replaced by a parking lot. Like the Joni Mitchell song. I loathe technology, except when it allows me to see a brilliant film like this. I often joke about going back to the 50's when telephones were so heavy your could only have 5 minute conversations. Lately I've realized that it's not about going back to the States at all, but about going back to my childhood. I'd never heard of this film. I found it this evening by accident. It resonated so deeply with me. The longing for the happiest time of your life. Or times. What if you could spend one hour in all those places? What if you could really do it?

I also remember and long for my childhood days, we didn't have a phone in the 1950... we didn't have electricity. We had a kerosene fridge that you lit a flame under it to coverrt to ice... we had a lamp that Father used to put in fuel of some sort, then press the pump to bring out the light the wick was a white mess bag: No toilet, only outside: little hut... regularly, it was manually dumped into the garden. Walked to and from school daily. Simple...lovely days.

When the old man showed up in the beginning I had an inkling of the ending. I'm 82 & I spent my childhood reading Ray Bradbury, etc. Time travel and its ramifications were all through Mr. Bradbury's beautiful stories. So I had to force myself to finish the movie and it ended as I thought it would. Oh well. Nice settings &lovely music.

So much food for thought. Sadly, he chose a fantasy over reality, when reality was as beautiful as Annie. This movie captures so well the gravity pull of first love and the purity of childhood feelings. I certainly see it in me, but also in so many people around--the deep impressions of our earliest hopes and aspirations. And how the loss of childhood and the attitude towards that loss defines a person and shapes adulthood. ❤🙏❤

I like to think that, as he was only 99% sure about everything, perhaps he did get back to Annie, and life went on in the two different dimensions of time. That is if he was right and all the dimensions and choices exist, like the orange that he said was squashed but it didn't mean that the non-squashed universe didn't still exist.

My God, what a fantastically original movie. This is true screen writing. I haven't enjoyed a movie, and simultaneously cried/laughed so violently since I can remember. It was so wonderful to see a beautifully chosen mother figure, with ideals written in that any mother could aspire to. Truly inspirational art that stands out in the modern age.

Ahhh, the time machine. What a fascinating concept. I was a child when “The Time Machine”, movie came out, in 1960. It totally enveloped me in a spell binding way. No other movie has captured my imagination since, the way that one did. This one was intriguing and a lot less frightening. Bravo!

As time doesn't exist by itself, the way we think about it (well explained in the film) is a time line (arrow of time) but there is no such thing (quantum phisics). There is coexistance of past futur present so we could come in this time with a futur technologie and visit the earth... What we call (may be) aliens... 😊 Everything is possible so why not the possibility to go back as our brain knows the past and reolay it with the knowlege of today but, how our brain can figure the futur to travel toward it... Interesting... A lot to think about😊 have a sweet day

Well, what could one add? If one is to admire something about the whole unlikely story, is its overall elegance. The carefully managed atmosphere gives this unbelievable film a sweet air of remembrance, or should.one say, mythicized remembrance, because the scenes of both 30's and 20's are ones of courteous social relationships, children navigating on a creek, and in general all those things that represent the ideal of the time. As said, the story is full of loops.and obvious technical inaccuracies (a time machine out of a piano, for one😂) but it is a warm, sweet and entertaining film.

Steven, aka. British MacGyver, combines a player piano, some blue food coloring and water, a hola hoop, a bowel of fruit loops, two empty fish bowls, an old-time radio, 4 AA batteries, and a few copper stove pipes to create a time machine. Later, out of giant popsicle sticks he makes a 3D modular sculpture and waltzes through it. His mother and girlfriend have nothing better to do than enable his madness. His second model of a time machine is more streamline, it fits in a suitcase and only requires one fish bowl.

The ending baffled me, but can only guess the two elderly gentlemen had a one-way ticket only, now living to their ripe old age in the dimension they were originally in 15 years earlier. I was hoping after the first young man jumped into the well, that the second young man would stay and marry the young woman. Then a year later two visitors would show up, it would be the first young man and Victoria, married and pregnant. But this ending makes more sense not to alter history so dramatically, but i wish they would have shown us if it worked and Victoria did not go into the well.

What a wonderful movie. I needed to see something like this instead of my usual horror that has no “life” impact on me and my souls what so ever. I want to be the ones going back, I want to be with my father before he passed…the father I obviously knew but do not recall. So someone please explain this to me please?!! So they were able to go back into time but they could not change it, they could not warn her to not go down into the well. They could only visit, she recognized him, he visited then left but he was also an old man. Hence he saw her again but was an old man??? So she did die. Did they get her body out of the well? Did I miss that in the beginning? I saw the man climb out and the mother threw a wreath into the well which tells me they never found the body as you would have put the wreath on the grave? And what did that man see in the past to come back naked and want to shoot himself? in the end as old men was he with the girl in the present?

Yeah, I didn’t understand that part about the funeral being at the well and that only a small object was shown to her mother to believe she had been drowned in the well. But then why was her body not pulled out of the well for a proper burial? She was just left to rot there? I dunno. It leads me to think something else was being said here. So I think the well must have represented time travel since her body wasn’t there anymore. Otherwise, it would have been pulled out of the well as we are shown could have been possible because of how the men (search and rescue guy and Gander) were able to travel all the way to the bottom of the well and still were able to climb out of it without any help from others. Note how the ladder kind of represented a dna strand, as another commenter noted in this comment section; and when lit up at the bottom of it, time travel was possible. As a result, it seems to me that the object of the whole invention for time travel was to keep Victoria from “jumping” (with the folded over futuristic jumprope where the time travel later was to take place at the bottom of the well in the water) through time. Hmm. Interestingly, my name’s Victoria…🧐 Thus, what I’m gathering is that Victoria was a time traveler. Her loved ones missed her. Those who had attempted time travel after her had just ended up mad, which is what a lot of people say happens to those who claim to be part of government time travel experiments in real life. The “well” was symbolic for her personal portal that she inherently had through her own “jumprope” while one of the young men tried to destroy her means to use it by symbolically throwing away her ability to jump through time. She went and retrieved what rightfully belonged to her, but it meant forever time traveling and not returning to her time. Somehow the Victoria character knew about Gander’s plot to take away her jumping ability (by his confiscating her jumprope at the end of the movie) to travel through time but allowed it for the sake of her loved ones as pointed out by her knowing who the old man was at the end of the movie. I could easily be way off. But the many gaps in the story, like what in the world happened to her body and what was the point of the futuristic nylon and plastic “jumprope” and the time traveling man going mad while the others didn’t, need explaining. And I suppose this reply was just my way of sorting through it all in my head in order to make sense of the story. I guess maybe we’ll see someday at the end when all is finally said and done.

This is a movie about indulged little boys and all the women who indulge them. The tiny little male ego is so damned delicate. It's so apparent why men end their lives or sulk their lives away when they have no woman around to take take care of and validate them while they play with their toys. They need to grow up.

Really enjoyed that and a very surprising ending. The concept of a 3 dimensional machine to travel through the fourth dimension is problematical because our concept of dimensions is not correct and very unclear. We live in a 15 dimensional time matrix and each dimension has a frequency, starting with the 1 st dimension which vibrates at a lowest or densest frequency all the way up to the 15th which is vibrating at such a high frequency as to be formless. The dimensions are structured in such a way that they are stacked inside each other like russian dolls. The 1st dimension is like the smallest doll in the middle and each dimesion as we go up in frequency surrounds and encompasses within it all of the lower (think smaller) dimensions. Which is why a 3 dimension machine made of 3 dimensional physical parts would never be able to take a 3 dimensional person through the fourth dimension. There are ways to travel through time but they do not involve machines, they do involve high levels of mysticism as found in Tibetan Buddhism for instance. All mystics know this, I mention Tibetan Buddhism specifically because they have refined their ability to do it to a high degree. Hence the idea or conscious reincarnation, which is certainly time travel.

A missed opportunity. Great actors, beautiful settings but this movie chased its own tail, got bogged down, lost it's way altogether and spoiled the magical and interesting aspects it might otherwise have had. The concept is always wonderful but the ending was just a plain silly thing, designed to be clever but not, and I would otherwise have thought it was no problem, that possibly its target age was young family going to the movies together, however, for some bizarre reason the film maker decided that someone shooting his brains out in the nude and a mess of congealed blood beneath him - amidst a movie that just left you alone to that point - was his idea of a good idea. That made it 'not for children', then for who... because the plot had so many silly holes in it that they were deeper than the well. Side note: skipping ropes were hand made back then, the handles of wood and the rope was certainly not nylon or synthetic. Yet he finds it intact 15 years later although it had sat in water. Man climbs out of well and sits completely dry. I could go on but the worst of it is the very theory he was trying to prove was obviously not something he believed in, in the slightest or he would have gone on to a happy 'present' and been assured that somewhere in the millions of possibilities, all would have been as he wished.

So sad that today the youthful and handsome actor that interpreted Conrad (Sean Hart) seems to be homeless in a self destructive path probably because of drugs. So many people are destroying their lives because of drugs. They had a life before drugs and now they don’t even look like the shadow of what they used to be. Today Sean looks like a miserable hungry ghost. I pray that life turns for the better for him and he recovers.
