Thanks Aaron, Dimensions have always been one of the reasons why I use pro rather than the web version of SketchUp for my wood working needs as I need to be able to output plans with dimensions and only Layout provides what I need properly.

Swede here. Not at all hating on imperial, it definitely has its pros (metal work for instance) but when talking about usability and fidelity, working in metric, or more precisely, millimeter helps a lot. I work with timber construction and I mostly work with hole millimeters, sometimes 0.5 millimeters. I often share my drawings with both professional contractors as well as amateur wood workers. Everybody here knows what a 'mm' is (but not everybody has a respect for its precision and accuracy🙄) and since it is the smallest comprehensable whole scale (except the rare .25 or .5) it is really easy to follow along without dashes, commas or apostrophes. Forgot my point and went with the rant. To whomever cares, metric is awesome.. Learn it! Use it! Profit!

Be kind to this old codger. Having difficulty navigating to find specifically tutorials for SketchUp for the iPad. Would you be able to title so that I could immediately pick up the relevant SketchUp for iPad tutorials? Or any way to folderize the tutorial files in uTube to ease the awful manual searching and tutorial opening only to find it’s not for the iPad / Mobile app? Good wot Right on the actual tubes tho. Thanks

Hi, how to save dimensions style seting?
@SketchUp9 ай бұрын
Add some styled dimensions to a blank page and save as a scrapbook. Then you can sample those later. If you set your style first, then add a dimension, it will remember it for the next time.

Thanks Aaron. I use dimensions in layout regularly and generally they work well. However sometimes it’s hard to snap them to the right points on a drawing to get correct dimension values. I find the trick is to hover over the area where I need to start a dimension and wait until I get a green dot, then click to snap to that point. Is this the best technique or is there a simpler way to snap dimensions to objects?
@stephanholland61812 жыл бұрын
Not simpler, but if you want points that are easier to snap to and still want textures and materials try overlaying two viewports, one vector and the other raster. Put them on two different Layout layers. turn off the raster viewport and use the vector one to dimension, then turn off the vector and turn on the raster for your presentation. Have the dimensions on their own layer.

why cant I put dimensions on angles in sketch up?
@jonomoles2 жыл бұрын
A fair question- that would be useful. Until this is added as a feature, can I suggest that you measure the angle using the protractor tool then use a label call out pointing to the angled edges which you can edit to indicate the angle
@vincebaker33842 жыл бұрын
@@jonomoles This is a very expensive program & has ben around for a long time I think this a BIG draw back !!!
@mosmicke2 жыл бұрын
@@vincebaker3384 i agree! I usually mimic it myself by a line, an arc and a free floating text with the angle in degrees° right next to it whenever I need to screengrab it for a client

Sometimes difficult to find mid point in the drawing in lay out to create dimension ...do you have the solution sir?❤️
@gilbertoantonioizaguirre90192 жыл бұрын
It will be awesome if Layout would allow us to have two different types of dimensions at the same time, for example metric and imperial.

If we had Vectors of model including the dimensions we could use it better in Layout, Unfortunately Layout Dimension Tool has snapping problems and if you use just for two number as shown in the video it is O.K BUT if you have more complex models .... Oh man ... Layout is useless.
