Dimensioning arcs and circles is tricky. An update on that would be great! Thanks.

I use Sketchup Pro 2020 how can such a Profesneral piece of software that cost so much (hundreds of dollars) not have a basic function as the ability to dimension angles I mean call them out like in the dimension tool WOW

Is there an easy way to change the format of dimensions? Specifically, instead of ft' in" (e.g. 2' 4 1/4"), I'd like to just have inches (e.g. 28 1/4"). Right now, I just manually double-click on the text and edit it to my liking, but that is obviously not efficient if there are a lot of dimensions, and it is prone to error.

Oh yes, clicking on a line and pulling out the dimension - that I did not know. Thanks for this extension!

Thank you. Very helpful. Also the dimensions change as you push/pull/change.

I’m having trouble getting radius or diameter dimensions to work on small holes in a panel. And sometimes the dimensions are placing themselves behind the panel where I can’t see it clearly??

Hey Aaron, love the vids. Can you please show how you would dimension onto a face, say if you wanted to dimension from a table top edge down onto a floor? Thanks in advance

Great one this! Question can you take a measurement from the centre of an object? Example, I want to measure from the underside of a bridge down to a road. On the road model there isn’t a definite straight edge, imagine just a rectangle, can you take a measure from under the bridge to the middle of the road? Cheers! 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻

I always learn something even from the basics videos. I never noticed that you can align the text to the dimension line--very nice. Thanks! Two comments: 1. You can edit the text of a dimension, but then if you do, it will not auto-update if you subsequently make a change that should change that dimension. 2. The text size stays fixed as you zoom in and out--which can be very annoying. You can adjust font size in Model Info, but that size still doesn't change as you zoom in and out. Probably one of the reasons you don't recommend using them very much.

May I suggest a dynamic option for dimensions? You make the distance between points larger or smaller and SketchUp comes up with the new dimension.
@SketchUp3 жыл бұрын
That is exactly how dimensions work. If you dimension to a line, then move the line, the dimension will move with it.

@@SketchUp Then I must be committing a user error. I made a shelf of a book case a different thicknesses and dimensions didn’t compensate. Is the top of a rectangular shelf not considered a line?

Hi Aaron. When I click on font color box, I don't see the color pallet as you have in your video, instead, I see the color wheel, HLS, HSB & RGB. What can I do to see Color in Model?

Hi, it is a possibility to make a dimension of a line to be fixed on the screen, no matter how I zoom in and out a 2D plan?
@SketchUp2 жыл бұрын
Dimensions are always in the center of the line between the two points. Since your model moves around the screen (and you can easily zoom in to the point where you cannot see the dimension line), and there is not really such thing as "2D" while modeling in SketchUp, there is not a way to anchor dimensions to the screen as you can with Text.
@razvyy20122 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this fast answer, I just wanna say that when I zoom in, the size of the text dimension became small and viceversa, when it's zoomed out, the text it's bigger, I wish the text that I set with a specific font to be scaled with the zoom, when I zoom in to be bigger and when zoom out to be smaller, exactly when zooming a 3d text. Thank you for your patience.

I use to have this workflow, one ‘big’ main model let say a house, then develop in a second separate SketchUp window draw a doghouse. When finished the modeling I copy/paste the doghouse over in my main model. Basically I happy with this workflow. But sometimes strange things happen. The axes mite be a tiny bit different, kind of having problems aligning. Do you have tips around working flow with bigger models let say a house, shed, doghouse, Garden fencing etc etc. do you always design in one window?

I am trained in Me10-Co Create. Can I use SkecthUp in 2D.
@SketchUp2 жыл бұрын
Have never heard of Me10-Co Create, but SketchUp is a 3D drawing tool. While there are those out there that use it to draw in 2D, the entire toolset was created to allow you to easily draw in 3D.
