That match against Boros aggro… typically you’d be fine after killing their third creature cause they don’t run many and once you kill the third they scoop. In this case opponent draw a couple more creatures than the average and one or two fewer lands. The problem with this deck is the lack of board wipes. At least in Bo1.

For me the Game is at its best when it is a back and forth which midrange battles can provide. It is a bit problematic if it becomes too grindy. New players become probably overwhelmed when games take 30+ min. It is good when Decks like this one can end games quick.

Magic is a game that is HIGLY influenced by its meta, so even a deck played in an important event by a skilled player could end up being average on the ladder. I have a similiar impression with regards to its power level (I've also checked other versions). In my opinion, in bo1 this deck should be mono blue or blue with a black splash and include the Enigma Jewel + Vault + Reenact the Crime package. Especially once the new blue Settle the Wreckage from Foundations will be available.

Midrange and Control are both bad for new players, since its hard to understand initially how all the little decisions come together to make a deck powerful. It does seem like a bad idea thought to make all of Standard typal and aggro decks. Can Wizards just make better starter decks and do that more often. They are trying to do something like it with magic foundations, and most other card games have intro decks that you buy and then upgrade.

What do you mean its hard to explain midrange??? "Hey dude, look at this! Big fucking dinosaurs! Big numbers!" It's 10 times harder to ever explain control and why exactly anyone should be excited about sitting with 7 cards in hand while playing nothing for most of the game. Midrange is by far the most appealing way to get new players into magic, cause big monsters is something any noob can understand

The cruelclaw heist only works if they have it in hand This is just too hard to counter. Leyline before the nerf was easier to counter

People also have to realize that they are building decks to combat other pros and their decks. So these are highly specialized decks that can’t cover the broad variety found in Bo1. But let’s be real, no deck can do that in Bo1. It’s all about what you have fun playing.
