@@Salomon_Gsame here. Gateways is average at best. And this is after Mustis and Vortex left, so Dimmu went downhill quick. Abrahadabra is their worst album IMO. They brought in a choir to replace Vortex, an orchestra to replace Mustis, and it’s still terrible compared to their earlier stuff.

A total of 92 people on stage for this. This is by far the biggest black metal band from Norway and they play massive concerts (100k+) in europe. Not all bm is satanic though😂 The makeup.. is the old school corpse paint.
@sumonjamal16534 ай бұрын
This was a 2017 performance by Dimmu Borgir w/ the Norwegian Radio Orchestra... released as the live DVD 'Forces of the Northern Night'... The track 'Gateways' was performed in Oslo, Norway w/ guest singer Agnete Kjølsrud from their 2010 album 'Abrahadabra'. Dimmu Borgir (loosely translates into 'dark castle') was formed in 1993 as a Norwegian black metal w/ classical symphonic influences... They wanted to be disassociated from the Norwegian black metal scene that was involved w/ church burnings and murder... but retained the satanic perspectives and themes. Dimmu Borgir songs: "Mourning palace" ... "The serpentine offering" ... 'Stormblast' ... 'The insight and the catharsis' ... 'Progenies of the great apocalypse' ... 'Blessings upon the throne of tyranny'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥 Silenoz (rhythm guitar + lyrics) formed Dimmu Borgir w/ Shagrath (lead vocals/ guitar/ keys) and Tjodalv (drums) ...Originally, Shagrath played drums and Tjodalv played guitar... but they switched. Their early records were written w/ Norwegian lyrics... Their debut album 'For all tid' was released in 1995 w/ Stian Aarstad (keyboards) and Brynjard Tristan (bass) ... followed by 'Stormblast' in 1996. Signing w/ German label Nuclear Blast Records in 1997, Dimmu Borgir released their 3rd album "Enthrone darkness triumphant" in 1997, which was their first record w/ English lyrics and Nagash (bass) in the band and Astennu (lead guitar) joined afterwards. The album was a minor success and followed by the EP 'Godless savage garden' in 1998... 4th full album 'Spiritual black dimensions' was released in 1999 w/ Mustis (keyboards) joining as Dimmu Borgir toured both Europe and N. America as Norwegian black metal began gaining popularity worldwide. In 2000, the band fired guitarist Astennu... Tjodalv (drums) left to form a new band Susperia... Nagash (bass) also left for the short-lived band The Kovenant. In 2001, Dimmu Borgir re-tooled their line-up w/ Galder (lead guitar) joining Shagrath (vocals), Silenoz (rhythm guitar) and Mustis (keyboards)... Vortex (bass & clean vocals) and Nicholas Barker (drums) were also added to record their breakthrough album 'Puritanical euphoric misanthropia'... followed by 'Death cult armageddon' in 2003... Dimmu Borgir parted ways w/ drummer Nicholas before their Ozzfest 2004 tour which boosted their popularity in N. America. In 2005, they re-recorded their 2nd album 'Stormblast' w/ better production and the current line-up and released it as 'Stormblast MMV'. In 2007, their most successful record 'In sorte diaboli' w/ Mayhem drummer Hellhammer... but after the tour, disagreements and infighting led to Mustis (keyboards), Vortex (bass) to quit Dimmu Borgir. In 2010, Dimmu Borgir were officially a trio (Shagrath, Silenoz and Galder) and recorded 'Abrahadabra' w/ session musicians Daray (drums), Snowy Shaw (bass) and Gerlioz (keyboards)...and the band toured extensively before taking a break... Their last album 'Eonian' was released in 2018 and Victor Brandt (bass) joined for the tour and a covers album 'Inspiratio Profanus' was released in 2023 and are working on a new album.

I love Mourning Palace! (totally unrelated wink wink I also enjoy Enya - Orinoco Flow) I remember hearing Mourning Palace for the first time on a sampler CD that came with a magazine a friend bought. I used that CD to make my first 2 mp3s. That was back when you had to manually record the song to a WAV file via Audio Recorder and then using l3enc (the first reference encoder made) it took like an hour to turn it into an 112 kbps MP3 file. The other song was Lake of Tears - Devil's Diner btw

Me and my friends (and others I'm sure) affectionately refer to them as "Dumma Birger" - pronounced with a umm sound in the first word, and Birger is said as Birr-Jerr. It means Stupid Birger (Birger is a first name). It has nothing to do with the band afaik it's just a small rearranging of and switching out ofletters and making a valid two word name that sounds similar. Oh and I've heard international fans call them Demon Burger :) which is somewhat more at least related haha
