Hello sir, first of all holy shit ive never seen anyone do this album like you have. All your stuff is truly amazing!!!! I can feel how close these songs are to you. I can relate as I started playing guitar because of Dimmu as well. I was wondering if you could tell me your recording process. Your mixing and levels are what im trying to create as well. I understand that your using jmp1 with that 18 watt power amp.

Hey, thanks you mate! I only used the jmp ad 18 watt for a short while. Some older videos used that setup. I sold the jmpo1 and the 18watt el84 has been rebuild into a 14watt 6v6. The audio covers are all DIY soldano SLO preamp (boosted with ts9) directly into computer, no cab sim etc. Then I used eq matching plugin to try and replicate the original guitar tones. It is not an efficient way to record! Some delay/reverb was added to solos after recording, and that is about it. iirc, after I mixed the 4 guitar tracks together I made them -4db, maybe it was -3db on some songs. I kinda went back and forth until it sounded good compared to the original songs. I recorded everything in Audacity. I used a jackson warrior copy 6 string in E standard the solos, and a handmade 7 string in B standard for the rest. Astenu actually played 2 guitars on spiritual black dimensions, 1 in E standard and 1 in B standard. Silenoz played E standard only. Behind the curtains of night and Arcane lifeforce mysteria are the only songs that are E standard only, the rest of the songs also has downtuned B standard guitars. cheers!

This song has the most overwhelming solos on the whole album, so it's really enjoyable to hear the guitar parts more isolated, just like in all your covers (great job, keep 'em coming!) I read some interview years ago that they recorded way too many tracks during the recording, that they sort of failed while mixing it, thus some parts are kind of buried in the mix. So it's really cool to hear all those riffs and even harmonies upfront in your videos. Btw I haven't heard more skillful player being able to masterfuly replicate Astennu's guitar solos like you do, have you ever thought about writing your own music in his style? (while we patiently wait for more music coming from him hopefully this year) ;)

Yeah man, these solos are what made me pickup the guitar 20+ years ago, I literally learned to play guitar with Spiritual black dimensions. I don't write my own music, I just play for fun. Dealing with chronic illness and hand injury doesn't really make me want to write music :D I did write a solo for Reptile, which I added to my cover, only piece of music I ever wrote haha. A friend of mind had contact with Silenoz. Silenoz sayd that there are 2 master versions of Spiritual Black Dimensions, the one that was released was the bands LEAST favorite. Something about the album being overproduced or something like that. Astennu Did some official tabs for reptile and insight and the catharsis, where the solos are more like the live versions, and less like the album versions. Alot of stuff must have been improvised during recordings. Also, Behind the Curtains of Night cover coming right up ;)

@@k13m13 Sorry to hear about your health issues, then it's completely understandable. But your made-up solo in Reptile is what I'd imagine Astennu would play. I think you nailed it perfectly. Speaking about added solos - I'd like to hear somebody covering solos Astennu made for live versions of In Death's Embrace, Entrance, Spellbound, Master Of Disharmony, etc. He even played a solo at the end of Dodsferd, but I haven't come across a version where you could hear clearly what he plays (the closest one is probably on Live in Köln 1997). Maybe I will pick up the challenge of covering it myself one day :) Yeah, I knew Silenoz considered Spiritual being overproduced, but I didn't know there are 2 different masters of the album. That's a pity they didn't release it at least when the album turned 20 years old like they did with Puritanical, where their discontent with the original mix was the main factor I think.

@@CrusTeek I have tabs for entrance and spellbound astennu's live solos, also album solo for in deaths embrace. Also, I have isolated solo tracks for spiritual black dimensions on my yt page. Also for godless savage garden solos and entrance and spellbound live, although I cant remember if have have that uploaded on yt... maybe i should do that :D My friend keeps nagging me to transcribe the other solos astennu did live :D:D For the Reptile solo, I know astennu's tricks and phrasings for his solos, since I have spend a gazillion hours transcribing his stuff, also some carpe tenebrum solos etc. so I used the same "formula" to write that.
