yea... i use danmar metal kick pads. they are pretty much a 1/4" metal plate. the sound you hear on the vid doesent do it justice.... they are great if you dont want to use triggers but still want to hear more"click" so each hit is heard clearly even at high speeds....

Yea.... I pretty much listen to the song.. and listen for the little things... or patterns or fills and i do my best to recreate them. I am not nick barker so I just try to get them as close as possible without fucking them up....also videos also work...also listen to the way the drum tracks are paned. you can tell what he hits by the way you hear it on an album...
