Coolest dude ever to hang out with in person. I don't understand why some people deny him the credit he deserves though? One of the hardest working drummers out there. He's always pushing boundaries. The man is a machine, and still keeps all of his stuff very musical. I hope they give him the MD fest metal drummer of the year award!

This video caused me to study and learn the swivel kick to get faster on my kicks, and I fucking thank you. I now have a great speed and also makes slower tempos a lot easier than any other techniques I play. You've been an inspiration since 2008, and I thank you George

there's always talk about "who's faster" or "who's better" when it comes to metal or extreme drumming. I don't play that game, I just know that George is an absolute machine and really shows what's possible when it comes to speed, control and stamina. he's not my favourite drummer, but I really, really appreciate what he's capable of and how he goes about his playing. @thesyllekattacks sorry for double post but I think i found it, He uses 13" and 14" hats and has 1/2 closed 12" mini hats so that 4th pedal is probably a remote pedal for (my guess) the 13" hats, but could possibly be to the 12s as well.

@popytherev I am working on kicking and blasting at 260 bpm right now but just like you were saying what works for him may not work for someone else. I only keep my beaters about 3 1/4 or 4 inches from my heads. And I keep a loose to medium tension in the pedals ( demons ). If you can just sit with a metronome and practice your feet individually to a click and you'll get so much faster so quickly. I try and do it 3-6 times a week on my feet and may hands and it is almost effortless now
@Metal555Fan12 жыл бұрын
HAIL George Kollias! Best drummer ever \m/
@Bearthoughts13 жыл бұрын
@Lycanpaester, George has addressed this a lot of times. When he started using the swivel motion he hurt his knees so he went to see several different doctors that told him that the motion is bad for the knees and I believe he said two doctors suggested to minimize the motion. So he uses the swivel motion but he doesn't overdo (or tries not to) so he doesn't hurt his knees. There's more but I think that sums it up pretty neatly.

@Drezin86 The way they're designed is different from normal pedals. They all have a flat, sort of square board, which makes it easier to find a "sweet spot" for good leverage, which makes playing faster easier. Some drummers find this good, for implementing different foot techniques. I don't mind that, since George does that well. But the way the springs are positioned, it allows for greater speed. And to be honest (I've used lasers and longboards before) they're not very powerful.
@lvmdrummer9213 жыл бұрын
@Astralsreams he uses axis e kits those are triggers that are on mounted on the pedal not on the bassdrum hoop

it's a balance thing, above about 230bpm it's pretty much no one's feet are going perfectly up and down on every single stroke, and the feet start swiveling back and forth so you can keep them from drifting too much in one direction and sliding off the peddles, hence the name "swivel technique"
@Pagnah13 жыл бұрын

@Benteiron, hahah well coming from a 16 year old who stands toe-to-toe with Kollias, it pushes human endurance and fitness. The "gift" that Derek Roddy, George Kollias, I, and others have, is actually a collaburation of "quick-reacting muscles" (not going into scientific terms). Basically, we have quick muscles, and ontop of that, to get a beat that fast, the signal doesn't travel to your brain, It just goes to your spine where the auto-reflex sends back the message. :p

lol definitely not heel-toe. crazy-mad control bro, you have most definitely given me a new goal, which is as follows: play half as fast as you, then MAYBE get up to your 240-ish bpm 32nd notes lol. also, every time you hit the snare on 3 along with the track, it makes me think that your snare is slowly bringing about the end of days, and I CAN'T GET ENOUGH!!! lol. love it.

@horriblequin I would imagine not, hehe. The beauty about death metal is, as far as super technical drumming goes, it's not too hard to figure out what they're playing if you know the style (Compared to progressive or jazz, where there can be scary time signatures and/or ghost notes), and there's a video to boot. Now, unfortunately, that's where the easy part ends XD
