Dina, Soul Steeper + 3 Alternate Commanders, Witherbloom EDH Deck Tech!

Here is a deck I've been working on since Strixhaven spoiler season. This deck is really cool because you can drain your opponents out slowly and all at the same time, so they don't really notice it at first and you won't have a target on your back. Also there are 3 other legendary creatures in the deck than can work quite well as alternate commanders.

I've recently started making/testing a Dina deck and found and interesting combo that has worked pretty well for me so far. Stream life (G X, target player gains x life) + Accomplished Alchemist (3G, add one mana of any color, tap for x of one color, x equals the amount of life you gained this turn) Generally I've combo'd it with weather the storm and a decent-ish storm count (like 3-4), with something like witherbloom apprentice and/or honor troll it helps you gain a bunch of life off of the storm and then gain another good amount of life.

Hi! Found your video while I was searching for a Dina list on KZbin. I was looking for someone who had the patience to explain each card, and I wasn't disappointed! I have a list very similar to this, I have more cards that lean towards the "I gain life when an opponent does X", like Sun Droplet, Revenge of Ravens, Curse of Fool's Wisdom, Polluted Bonds and Roots of Life. It used to have more of them, but they were too expensive so I trimmed down the number. If I had to say something about your list, I would only suggest to take out some ramp (Arcane Signet, Pristine Talisman which is not worth it for me after trying it, and maybe 1-2 sorceries) in favour of creature-based ramp (like Wood Elves, who put the land directly into play), which synergises better with the sacrifice theme. The rest looks very solid to me, good job!

I remember seeing Sun Droplet in the Witherbloom precon but I didn't really give it much consideration. Now that you mention it, it does seem like it could work quite well. The other cards you mentioned are pretty interesting too. I wonder if you could enchant yourself with Curse of Fool's Wisdom and then draw a bunch of cards somehow and drain your opponents out all at once. Taking out the artifact ramp in favour of creature ramp makes sense to me, and I think it's something definitely worth considering. Thank you for the suggestions :)

I'm running Beledros and I took out a lot of creature and artifact ramp for ones that put lands into play, like wood elves and farhaven elf. They also are nice sac fodder, and have a ton of synergy with her.

@@8thPlaceDave Hi! I'm glad I could help with my suggestions! Curse on yourself is actually a very smart thing to consider in certain situations, I have to try it! Also after some further testing I ended up inserting 4 elves that ramp when etb and they honestly feel good (wood elves, farhaven elf, elvish rejuvenator and springbloom druid), I'm just having some minor issues with card advantage but that's it

Oh! And don't sleep on roots of life (choosing swamp) + urborg: it's such a dirty sinergy if the table doesn't have an immediate answer

Very nice deck list! I’m currently building Dina based on your list. What do you think about Creakwood Liege? Creates 3/3 tokens every turn and boosts all of our creatures in case we wanna go attacking. Obviously Great Henge is going in as well but it is a bit expensive

Thanks for watching! I had considered Creakwood Liege, but ended up not including it because the power/toughness boost didn't seem too relevant to me, because I'm typically not attacking with my creatures, so their power/toughness isn't too relevant. Creating a token on each of my upkeeps is nice, but it's only on my upkeep so it is kind of slow for 5 mana. For an effect like this I'd rather play Tendershoot Dryad. I can definitely see it being good though.

Hey, so somewhat unrelated questions, but what happens if you let cards see where they are going when you ship them? I have been very diligent in ensuring their blindness. However, I have recently been ruminating over whether it truly matters. I know it is silly to have doubt over such a well-established fact, but I can't help myself from questioning its validity.

The main issue here is that it ruins the surprise for them. It doesn't really affect how safe the package is, but it means your cards will be disappointed because they missed out on the fun, so it really depends on how much the emotional welfare of your cards matters to you.

I LOOOOVE Witherbloom. Big fan of BG but the whole graveyard reanimator theme of most Golgari decks never interested me. I just built a Beledros deck and the deck is super fun. There's synergy everywhere and even has some pretty awesome combo potential

This Dina deck is around $600 I think. The price could be lowered though, by removing some of the more competitive cards like Denonic Tutor and Sylvan Library, and the deck would still work just fine.

Dina might be fun but if I can potentially one shot someone with my varolz deck thats more fun to me, just being able to barrel down the battle field where noone can stop me 😈

@@8thPlaceDave ik its just my personal opinion... I actually run a Dina deck and not only in this deck but other ones that have blk in them there's just so many better things you can be doing for that much mana...
