So when you renew an item, it basically puts it back at the top at the algorithm just like if it’s a new listing. It boosts it to customers searches for a little while. Keep in mind, every time you renew 1 listing, it charges you 20 cents. I sell physical items and just started digital items, but I would not suggest renewing your items everyday. Renewing your 25 items everyday will cost you 5 dollars a day. If I were you, I would renew the ones that aren’t selling well every couple of days. When you sell 1 item, Etsy automatically renews it. Or re-lists it. It’s the same thing.
@DinaLu Жыл бұрын
Makes sense! Ok gotcha, renew the ones that aren't selling well. Someone else commented that renewing listings is an old tactic that we shouldn't use anymore... do you think this works for you?
@rebecca.thecrafter963 Жыл бұрын
@@DinaLu honestly I don’t renew them at all (unless it automatically renews when it sells). I was just suggesting it in case you wanted to try it. But I do have all my listings on automatic renew. I think it’s every 3 months (maybe 4 months) of it not selling etsy will automatically renew it again. A lot of my physical items are seasonal baby clothing. So for instance after halloween, I don’t sell many halloween outfits until the next year. However I do notice I will get a lot of favorites for my halloween items around this time of year because etsy automatically renewed them after the 3 or 4 months. Will those favorites turn into sales in the fall? Maybe. Ive had my baby clothing etsy shop for 2 years now. So I’m still noticing different ways etsy works. In short, I do notice when etsy automatically renews an old listing, it does reach more people. So I would assume if you would renew a listing every couple of days it’ll also reach more people. Since you have quite a bit of free listings, i guess it wouldn’t hurt to try it, and maybe it’ll make for another awesome video!

@@DinaLu Renewing listings for a boost is an old tactic like the other person said. The only time I renew a listing is when it has sold 1 or 2 times in the past but hasn’t in the last 6-8 months. BUT FIRST: Make a copy of the listings and make SEO changes in the title & tags. AND THEN: make those SEO changes in your original listing’s title and tags and then renew it. Sit back and see which one performs better.

@@BLINGofBOSTON Thanks for sharing this. But I dont completely understand yet. Let's say you have a digital product (a poster of a horse to download). So your original 1st listing is a horse. Then you copy this listing and create the same listing as a 2nd one. But in the 2nd one you have changed SEO in the title & tags. Then you run both and see which one performs better, right? And the SEO which runs better will be implemented in my original listing and then I delete the 2nd one? Is this the right order you are talking about?

Renewing the listings is an outdated Etsy Tactic. That worked 5 years ago but not anymore. Spring time sales go down & Etsy ads are a gamble. New listings will help. Also are you adding videos in your listings? Videos are something else they consider in the ranking system & filling out all the attributes and little stuff of Etsy. If you're missing that add a video in on how to use your product or a general here are more products or something to make the customer want to buy that product. 15 sec. videos is what they prefer. Etsy is always running tests throughout the year so it can effect some shops more than others. They test algorithms etc. up until November and then leave it alone for 2 months. It's literally a roller coaster. My shop had Easter seasonal stuff in it and it tanked probably the first time in 6 years last month. Many niches are getting super saturated. I was outrun by the laser engravers again. Everyone is out side hustling extra jobs now.

With the price reduction, did you just reduce price or put on a daily sale to get you to competitive price, this is a good technique because the buyer will perceive they are getting a premium product (because they can see your original price) for a bargain rather than just seeing a set price that might be competitive with other sellers but get lost on the sea of products. It also gives you the flexibility to remove the sale at times of year you know it sells well at the original price…

This is so interesting, thanks for sharing. I did research it seem like when u click Renew the listing it will expire in 4 month. It will reset the date as well. I might be wrong, maybe when the listing publish from the beginning the expiration is 4 months. Than after 4 month, we are suppose to renew it? Maybe this renew listing is a must to kick back the algorithm? I’m just thinking 🤔
@DinaLu Жыл бұрын
You're right, it does expire in 4 months. But some people are saying that if you renew the listing earlier, it helps the listing "refresh" in the search results. But also, when someone buys a listing, the listing will automatically renew. So apparently we should only manually renew listings that aren't selling well since the ones that sell automatically renew.

I'm sorry you had a low income month. I do think this series is actually awesome and priceless, so keep at it because I will watch and like. I got excited to start myself, but I didn't ha. I do feel like Etsy should have a policy whith a minimum price point of $20 or more per digital listing, because when you see a digital product at $1.2 it's very discouraging and doesn't help anybody, not even a best seller...It's insane, it davalues the product and promotes unhealthy competition, but maybe it's just me :(
@cordialgreetingsart Жыл бұрын
There are alot of low ballers out there in every niche. I compete with laser engravers while I hand wood burn my products. They can sell something fast & cheap & ship within a day. Where as I add more quality & details of artwork charge more and have a little longer process time. Those that appreciate it will buy my products vs. the fast & low quality items. Some people live in low income countries so they can charge a lower price vs. the usa. That's the problem competing globally.
@DinaLu Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for continuing to watch! Hmmm, it would be hard to implement a policy like that because literally some digital items are like... 1 little design (like an SVG file that goes for $1 or something). There's always going to be competition that sells for a lower price in any industry :(

What percentage of visitors to your shop come from other shop recommendations? I think I heard somewhere that it is usually over 50% of visitors come by the you might also like feature. If you have 24 items in your shop then you have done very well so far most niches need at least 100 listings to get any sales at all. Have you tried copying any of your products and changing the fingernail picture and some of the title and tags? If you had a minimalist wedding invitation you could change it to a modern invitation. In my research, I have seen multiple examples of this leading to the copy outselling the original and it would also bulk up your shop a bit while allowing you to get more keywords out there and show the algorithm that you are dedicated and able to put in consistent time and effort to your shop.

Hmmm it's hard to say exactly because for your listings, you could be listed under multiple keywords (some shorter keyword phrases, and some long-tail keywords)... it also depends on how good/bad your competitor's products are... for some niches the competitor's products are not great so even if there are more results, I believe you can still dominate if you create good ones.

No experience with Etsy ads, but it reminds me of FB ads back in the day. Especially if you don't post 10 quality listings a day and spend time on marketing (not necessary admoney). What u think everyone is doing now days, economy is bad, everyone looking to open shop and do side hustle, etsy has low barrier to entry so everyone posting and opening shop like crazy, using every AI from GPT to midjourney / canva template to just keep making listings and copying best sellers along the way with all these tracking tools and lower their prices etc. Information also level the playing field further a lot since resources and tutorials / tips (some channels are good ones) are plenty on youtube etc.

I am wondering Dina - how long does it normally take for a listing to start getting views? I have 47 listings (digital downloads, trackers mostly) since Mar 15th (posting them every single day) and still very little (basically zero) views. I optimised SEO etc. and started using ads just yesterday so hopefully that will start some 'action' in my store ... but now after seeing the comments here and in your video - these months are more or less slow and it might start picking up in a few months, not before. There are so many theories and advice that someone so new in this gets totally confused and lost in what tips to listen to 🙂 I also watched a video or two that it's smart to bring my own traffic from social media but that could mess up with the algorithm too, right? 🙏🏻 + oh, one more question, how do you choose which keywords the ads consider?
@DinaLu Жыл бұрын
I'd say it depends on your niche and how saturated the market is... I think the ads will help for sure. I started getting views a couple days after I posted my first couple of listings I think. I didn't do ads until maybe 2 weeks after posting the 1st listing. If you search for your own keywords in incognito mode, do you see your listings? Which page do you see your own listings? Agreed, there's A LOT of advice out there (and lol I'm adding to the piles of advice out there too). Starting an Etsy shop isn't THAT straightforward. It requires a lot of work and testing and trying different things out. Keep going!💪 Bringing in your own traffic... it would help I think but if your SEO is good and you're getting views you don't HAVE to. For me, I don't promote my shop anywhere on social media (not even pinterest yet). All my sales are from organic Etsy sales or from Etsy ads. Ad keywords: I'd pick the ones that really truly reflect what your product is. The words that accurately describe your product.
@qianhuizheng6571 Жыл бұрын
I think the reason why Dina mentioned certain things could "mess up with the algorithm" is because she's an influencer and if she tells people about her shop on social media, 1. many people could click in without purchasing and tank her conversion, and 2. many people could buy and then she couldn't reflect the genuine progress of her Etsy shop. As an ordinary seller like yourself, you will need every single traffic you can get.
@bertambrase4242 Жыл бұрын
@@DinaLu You are right! I am seeing more and more that my niche is way too saturated (digital habit tracker, self-care journals etc.) and in incognito I only see a third or less of my 47 listings or less in the first three pages (even with ads on). I started with ads now after four weeks since opening my shop. The more I look, the more I see that maybe SEO isn't something I understand completely (or my doubts are just getting louder lol). As far as all the advice - yes, there is a hurricane of everything (but your content is by far some of my absolute favourite! Realistic, honest and down to earth 💛). All those 10K in a month shops and people - I don't know what's truly behind these 'success' stories, are there teams, outside traffic etc. It's a bit to fairytale-y and it's hard to grasp the work behind building a shop if it's only one person only starting out. Thank you for your encouragement and sincerely valuable content you share! 🙏🏻 That is amazing that your sales are organic ✨ your stats are truly inspiring to me still, even with these recent months (that I am sure only have to do with the store being active, when you'll start listing products and spend more time in it I am sure it will take back up again!) - maybe I'll work more on my SEO first and maybe niche-down even more to hopefully finally see some movement organically. Sadly Etsy is a grind. If you don’t post listings everyday and renew, you won’t get as many sales as a person who posts everyday 😩

I think it's okay to not post every day... I totally believe we can still get consistent sales without posting every day using the right strategies (maybe the niche is the most important but we'll see haha)

Hmmm interesting! I think it should depend on how many listings you have and how saturated the market is and how many sales you're getting from organic... I don't think there's a rule that applies to everyone since everyone's shop is different :)
